Spanish Weather Project

Objective: Your group will create a weather report for a Spanish speaking country. Your group will identify the current day’s weather for 3 different cities, and will create a 7-day forecast for the capital. Students will give a weather report to the rest of the class.

  1. Although all group members will work together and help each other, you will assign one of these specific jobs to each member in your group. This is the person responsible for keeping all other group members on task for each of these elements of the project:
  2. Meteorologists- students who record the weather in that country for the required days and week.
  3. Cartographers- Students who create and label the map for the selected country
  4. Graphic artists- students who design the visuals for the weather report
  5. Weatherperson/Producer- student who delivers the weather report and keeps the rest of the group on task throughout the project.
  6. Writer- Student responsible for compiling the information into a presentable speech for the weatherperson- works closely with the meteorologist.
  1. As a group, select a Spanish speaking country.

Our Spanish-Speaking Country is ______

Identify 3 main cities in your country (try to select cities that will offer a variety in weather):

1)______

2)______

3)______

  1. Include what season the country is in (remember for countries below the equator, the seasons are opposite of us).
  2. To find the weather for your country, go to:
  3. On the top, middle of the page, click on the picture of the earth that says U.S. next to it. Select “Europe” and select Spain (español). This gives you your weather report in the type of Spanish that we are studying.
  4. In the top right search bar, type in your selected cities (make sure they are in the right country) and view the Spanish weather report for that country.
  1. Your report will be given in Spanish. Use the vocabulary from your book, and from the reference page given to create a weather report for your country. Do not use Google Translate… I can tell if you do. I want to see what you can do at your level with the given vocabulary.
  1. Weather reports must have 2 visuals along with the spoken report:

Visual #1 a graphic for the 7 day forecast. This can be done on either large Poster board, or bulletin board paper, or digitally as Google Slides presentation. A digital presentation must look like it was created by the group and not just copied and pasted from the weather site, and a hand drawn graphic must be neat, colorful, and large enough for the class to see.

Visual #2 a large map showing the country and the 3 selected cities. There must also be a graphic showing what the weather is like on that day. Maps can be drawn on poster board or large paper, or included in a Google Slides presentation. Again, hand drawn maps, should be large, neat, colorful, and accurate. Digital maps should have the cities and weather graphics largely pointed out for the class to see. It should not just look like you copied and pasted a map from the internet and did nothing to make it fit your presentation. Perhaps show several maps that shown the entire country and then zoomed in maps of each city.
