CLASS OBJECTIVES: The BEGINNER-LEVEL student will learn useful language skills (listening, speaking, reading & writing) in Spanish. In learning these skills, students will learn how to:
- Learn TENSES: present, preterite, & simple future
- Meet and greet people
- Tell time, colors, seasons, weather, calendar
- Talk about your family
- Comment on clothes
- Explain sports
- Talk about foods and beverages
- Explain vacations at the beach & mountains
- Discuss what you & others do during free time
- Express likes & dislikes
- Culture!
Level One

REQUIREMENTS:
Level One
- Pencils (pens are not permitted on tests/quizzes)
- Paper or spiral notebook
- Expandable OR 3-ring binder with dividers labeled: Notes/Grammar (Reference Sheets); Verbs Charts; Chapter Questions; Vocabulary;HW; Essays
- Brown (thick) paper bagto cover book
- Clear plastic sheet protectors (2-5 recommended)
- 1-2 low-odor dry erase markers
- Notecards of multiple(4) colors + Ziplock storage box/bags
- Highlighters (optional)

BEHAVIORIAL EXPECTATIONS:
Students are expected to follow the Code of Conduct for Strongsville High School. RESPECT everyone! See the student planner for each of these items:
Level Two
- Dress Code: Read your planner for details!
- Drinks: Water only is allowed (no food at any time)
- Attendance: absenteeism may affect your participation grade; 5 maximum absences per month but 12 maximum per year
- Tardiness: 3 tardies = Referral
- Make Up Work: If missed one day, have 48 hours to submit for full points
- Electronic Devices:When class is “in session” keep cells out of sight—it’s respectful
- Bullying: Making disparaging remarks to anyone in the room will not be tolerated
Level Two
COURSE GUIDELINES:
1.Absenteeism from Class (not necessarily absent the entire day)
- “Excused” absences – make up the work for full credit within the allotted time
- “Unexcused” absences (includes unexcused TARDIES to class) – zero credit for all work missed on that day
- Pre-excused absences (vacations, field trips, etc.) – It is appreciated if you tell the teacher in advance so that work can be given to you and/or arrangements can be made to secure passes for tests missed. 5 maximum pre=arranged absences per year
- 12 days maximum per yearper class
2.CELL PHONES
- If a cell phone is seen in your possession during class time, you will get a warning.
- School policy: “ . . . kept out of sight and turned off during the school day. . .” p. 28
- The 2nd time it is seen, a referral will be written for insubordination.
3.Online/Electronic Translatorsare not permitted in class or for use with homework. This is considered cheating and will result in loss of credit. Translation sites (Google Translate) are usually literal and incorrect!! WordReference.com (app) and traditional dictionaries should be utilized.
4.Assignments/Homework
- Homework is assigned nightly, valued at 3 points each
- On occasion, these assignments are graded for accuracy & the points earned will decrease if NOT completed accurately.
- Points WILL BE deducted for: being late, incomplete, haphazardly completed.
- Refer to the board in class, my website (for weekly lesson plans), or TEXT messages for clarification of assignments.
- If ten (10) full credit3-point assignments are turned in consecutively, 3 bonus points will be awarded!
5.IPA (Tests) – Integrated Performance Assessment
- IPA coversa chapter & will be administered approximately every 2-3 weeks
- Test are valued between 35-60 points
- Once test are taken & reviewed, they will be re-collected & kept by teacher
- Bonus questions will be available on the test day only, not on make-up tests

6.Grades
- Grades are calculated & posted on PowerSchool every 10 days
- It is the student's responsibility to review grades on-line to ensure accuracy – see me if you aren’t logging in!
- Each quarter, your lowest % on a “QUIZ: Spelling” will be dropped!
- “Credit" for missing assignments will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
- Grades are based on the total number of accumulated points on all work.
- Keep all papers & assignments until the end of the semester/year.
7.Class Participation – absenteeism may affect this grade!
- You are expected to participate in class discussions by offering your opinions, answering questions, and volunteering Spanish/Cultural information to the other students.
- Accurate records are kept by the teacher.
- Each time you participate in class, you earn a check mark. Totaled marks are then tripled.
