Lesson Opener / -Warmup introducing the Hispanic holiday of El día de los Reyes; students read a short paragraph about the celebration and answer 2 questions. / -Students find their paper shoe and receive their “gifts” from the 3 Kings.
-Warm-up: Kahoot review for Dia de los Reyes / Warm-up: Grab a question sheet from the movie and be prepared to start when the bell rings. / Warm-up: Take out your questions for the movie. / Warm-up: Take out your questions for the movie.
Procedures/Strategies / -PPT about El día de los Reyes
-Short video clips showing the parade activities in Spain
- -Reading/Writing Activities: students read another longer paragraph about the holiday and answer true/false questions; students write a letter to the 3 Kings.
Lesson Summary / -Students create their own paper shoe to leave out for the 3 kings (a tradition in many Hispanic countries) and leave the shoe in the classroom until tomorrow. (Teacher fills them with candy). / Ticket out the Door: Students create a Venn Diagram comparing El dia de los Reyes with Navidad (Christmas). / -Students answer questions on a guided note-taking sheet as they view the film. / -Students answer questions on a guided note-taking sheet as they view the film. / -When the movie finishes, students turn in their notes and discuss the film with teacher. Teacher goes over roles of professions and rural/urban city life.
-Students write are assigned to write a paragraph
