Sow It Forward Grant Info Sheet &Prep Form
Application deadline: Friday, January 9, 2015 at 5pm Eastern Time
This document is NOT the application itself and CANNOTbe filled out and sent to KGI for consideration for a grant. Only applications that have been submitted via our online application form will be reviewed. This form does, however, list all the questions asked in our application and can help you prepare your request for support. You may find it useful to compose your answers to some of the questions especially the 3 long-answer questions offline and paste them into our online form.
Accessing the online application:Applying for a grant is as easy as 1,2, 3:
- Open an account at KGI.org if you don’t already have one.
- Click the “apply for a grant” button on the green navigation bar.
- Start your application by providing your garden project’s name. This will save your application and generate a link that will help you find your way back to it for future editing.
What you’ll need to apply:
- At least one hi-resolution photo of your project with a horizontal orientation. This photo is important for two reasons: 1) it will be seen by application reviewers and 2) it will be displayed publicly on your project’s page on the KGI website. You may upload other photos if you would like to share more than one. They will appear in a photo gallery.
- The names and email addresses of two contact people who are actively engaged in the garden project and one administrative contact person who deals with finances on behalf of the applicant organization (e.g. a school administrator in the case of a school garden)
- Although not required, any proof you can provide of the nonprofit status of the group applying for the grant (e.g. a letter from the IRS in the case of a 501c3, a letter from an administrator in the case of a school or food bank, etc.) will strengthen your application.

ELIGIBILITY TEST
You must be able to check all five of these boxes to qualify for a grant: *
The group making the grant request is a nonprofit cause and can prove it (i.e. you're either a registered nonprofit yourself, are applying through one, or can provide other proof such as a letter from a school administrator in the case of a school garden).
Knowledge, seeds, and/or produce generated in the course of the project will be shared beyond those directly involved (the "sow it forward factor").
I have at least one high-resolution project photo on my computer ready for uploading.
If my project is awarded a grant, I agree to provide an update on our progress via KGI's website by 30 June 2015.
I authorize KGI and its grant partners to republish parts of my application in their own communications about Sow It Forward.
