General description

A high quality, easy-to-use MP3 player that enables you to listen to content such as music, audio books and talking newspapers directly from a USB stick or via Bluetooth. It has four large, yellow tactile control buttons, an extra large volume control dial and offers superb sound quality from the two built-in speakers.

Orientation

Place the Sovereign media player on a flat surface, with the large round yellow dial on the front of the unit facing towards you.

Front

The main feature on the front of the unit is the large round dial, which protrudes from the player and is the Volume/Power On/Off control.

Below this dial, to the left is a small round socket to insert headphones.

The grated fabric material that covers the majority of the front of the unit is where the speakers sit.

Back

Turn the player around so the back of the unit is facing towards you. In the centre of the unit you will find a raised rectangle area, which is where the battery is located. Towards the top centre of this rectangle is a small catch to open the battery compartment. Push the small catch down and pull towards you and the battery cover will come away completely.

To the right of the battery cover is a round hole - this is the DC 5V socket where the power lead jack is inserted.

Top

Along the top of the player you will find the main controls and the USB socket.

In the middle you will find a raised rectangular area that extends to the front edge of the player. To the front edge of this raised area are three round yellow buttons in a horizontal row. From left to right these are:

  • track back/rewind
  • play/pause
  • track forward/fast forward.

Directly behind the Track back (left) and Play/pause (middle) buttons is a rectangular hole. This is the USB socket. Just to the left of this is the power indicator LED. This will show a solid blue light when the player is switched on; the light will flash on and off when a memory stick is being played.

Directly behind the Track forward (right) button, is another round, yellow button - this is the Reset button.

Getting started

The Sovereign is fitted with an internal rechargeable batteryand can operate by either battery power or mains power.

Using mains power

Locate the AC mains adaptor in the box. It has a UK three-pin plug on one end and a small circular socket on the other end.

Connect the circular socket to the DC 5V socket on the back of the player, and then plug the other end into a suitable power socket and turn the power on.

The power indicator LED on the back of the plug will light up green to indicate that power is being applied to the adaptor. A red light will show on the top of the player when the battery is charging; this light will go out when the battery is fully charged.

If the battery is completely flat, you will need to allow the unit to charge for 15 minutes before turning it on and using mains power to operate it.

Please note: If you intend to operate the Sovereign using mains power it is best practice not to leave the mainspowerswitched on overnight.

Using battery power

If you wish to use the unit via battery power, it is recommended that you charge the battery fully before use. The initial charge will take approximately six to eight hours. (See previous section Using mains power for charging the unit).

After this initial charge, the player will take approximately two hours to charge fully. The player can be used for approximately four to five hours before it needs to be connected to the mains and the battery recharged.

Three beeps are designed to indicate a low battery. A red light will show on the top of the player when the battery is charging; this light will go out when the battery is fully charged.

If the battery is completely flat, you will need to allow the unit to charge for 15 minutes before turning it on and using mains power to operate it.

Using the product

Playing content from a USB memory stick

The Sovereign enables you to play MP3 files only directly from a USB stick with a capacity of up to 32GB. Content should not be placed into folders within the USB but should instead be placed straight onto the USB stick.

Inserting a memory stick

Line the memory stick up with the USB socket which is on the top of the Sovereign, above the row of three round buttons. If the memory stick does not insert easily, rotate it 180 degrees and try again. The Sovereign will find the audio, let out a “bing-bong” sound, and start playing automatically.

Please note: Do not use force when inserting the memory stick as this could cause damage to the USB socket. Never insert the memory stick at an angle.

Playback

Turn the unit on by turning the large round Volume/Power On/Off button on the front of the player clockwise until you hear a click. Continue rotating clockwise to increase the volume.

The power indicator LED on the left-hand side of the USB socket will illuminate blue.

Playback will start automatically if the USB stick has been inserted correctly.

  • Press the play/pause (middle) button momentarily to pause a track or resume play.
  • Press and release the track back (left) button to play the previous track, or press and hold to rewind through the track currently playing.
  • Press and release the track forward (right) button to skip to and play the next track, or press and hold to fast forward through the track currently playing.
  • Press the reset button briefly to go back to the start of your track selection.

Please note: The Sovereign will play all of the tracks in one folder before progressing to the next.

Multi-USB stick memory

Turning the player off will automatically place a bookmark on the memory stick. If you have multiple memory sticks, the Sovereign will bookmark each stick so that you can listen to a different stick, and when you want to listen to the original memory stick again, it will play from where you left off. There is no maximum number of memory sticks that can be used. The Sovereign will resume play from the last position marked on each stick. Always turn the player off before removing the memory stick.

Important note: the bookmarking function will not work if the battery is low. Please charge the player for at least one hour and try again.

Connecting with Bluetooth

Connecting to the Sovereign via Bluetooth does not require any buttons to be pressed on the Sovereign. Simply search for and select the Sovereign on your Bluetooth device (Phone, Tablet etc) to connect. You will hear a tone through the player (if switched on) when the connection has been made.

If you wish to listen to the Sovereign using Bluetooth headphones, you will need to insert a Bluetooth dongle into the player’s headphone socket. The signal will then be transmitted via the dongle to the Bluetooth headphones. (Dongle not included.)

Please note: Bluetooth is not useable when a USB stick is inserted in the player.

Turning the Sovereign off

To turn the power off, turn the large round Volume/Power On/Off dial on the front of the player anti-clockwise until you hear a click. The bluepower indicator light on the top of the player will go out.

Volume control

Turn the large Volume/Power On/Off dial on the front of the unit clockwise to increase the volume and anti-clockwise to decrease the volume.

Using headphones

Insert the 3.5mm jack on your headphones into the headphone socket, which is located on the front of the Sovereign, to the bottom left of the Volume/Power On/Off dial.

Please note: If you wish to listen to the Sovereign using Bluetooth headphones, you will need to insert a Bluetooth dongle into the player’s headphone socket. The signal will then be transmitted via the dongle to the Bluetooth headphones.

Battery replacement

If you need to replace the rechargeable battery, ensure that the unit is switched off and disconnected from the mains power. Turn the unit around so that the back is facing towards you. There is a small catch at the top of the battery cover. Insert a finger into this catch and push down before pulling the cover away.

Remove the rectangular battery from the battery compartment - this can easily be done by inserting your finger to the left of the battery and gently pulling the battery out.

Insert a new battery ensuring the three metallic connections (all other corners of the battery are smoother) are on the top right side of the battery so they can connect with the three pins in the top right side of the battery compartment. Replace the battery cover.

Hints and Tips

Please ensure that the Sovereign is not placed in direct sunlight, either during use or when you are not using it.
