VOLUNTEER INFORMATION

Thank you for volunteering for the Southwest Festival of the Written Word. Your time, energy and support will be invaluable for making the festival a success. Please read the following carefully, complete sections A-G, and send to Jessica Blanchard at .

GENERAL EXPECTATIONS OF VOLUNTEERS

*Provide a warm, enthusiastic welcome to all participants and visitors to the festival.

*Be prepared for questions visitors may ask concerning the schedule, locations, and times. Make sure you are familiar with the festival map and the program.

*Be punctual for your shift(s).

VOLUNTEER TRAINING

All volunteers must attend a training session. Choose one of the following dates to attend. You do not need to tell us which date you will attend. However, please note that if you do not attend a training session, you will not be eligible to volunteer at the festival.

·  Sept 18 -- 9am to 10am – Library Instruction Room, WNMU Library

·  Sept 20 -- 11am to 12pm – Library Instruction Room, WNMU Library

·  Sept 25 -- 9am to 10am – Library Instruction Room, WNMU Library

·  Sept 27 -- 11am to 12pm – Conference Room A, WNMU Library

ROLE DESCRIPTIONS

1 Set up/tear down team: Put tables, chairs and signs into position before festival, including vendors’ spaces, book signing venues, conference rooms, etc. Pack up after festival (times to be confirmed).

2 Volunteer liaison officers: Tell other volunteers their schedule, hand out T-shirts and programs to volunteers, check the volunteer schedule is running smoothly.

3 Greeters: Greet visitors to the festival, circulate, answer questions, hand out programs.

4 Check-in assistants/escorts: Check speakers arrive, escort them to conference rooms and book-signing venues, deal with speaker requests.

5 Venue assistants: Maintain conference rooms, keep chairs and tables tidy, check AV equipment is working, help speakers set up, greet and seat crowds, act as time-keeper for speakers.
