SOUTHERN WELLS COMMUNITY SCHOOLS

BOARD OF TRUSTEES

EXECUTIVE and PUBLIC MEETINGS

August 18, 2015

EXECUTIVE SESSION: An Executive Session to meet with and interview industrial prospects regarding the sewage treatment plant as permitted by IC 5-14-1.5.1 was held at 5 PM.

PUBLIC MEETING: The public session was opened by President Chad Roush at 6:02 PM with Secretary Aaron Westfall giving prayer. Others in attendance were Vice President Kevin Scott, Liaison Doug Klefeker, Supt. James Craig, secondary principal Chad Yencer, maintenance director Ryan King, and Glen Werling of the Bluffton News-Banner.

I. MEETING ORGANIZATION:

1. Approve Agenda --Roush made a motion to approve the agenda, was seconded by Klefeker, and the motion passed 4-0.

4. Approve Minutes – Roush made a motion to approve the minutes of the August 4 board meeting and was seconded by Klefeker, with the motion passing 3-0. Scott abstained.

II. FINANCIAL ITEMS:

1.Claims:Scott made a motion to approve claims for August, was seconded by Westfall, and the motion carried 4-0.

2.Fund Reports: Fund reports for August were approved with a 4-0 vote, after a motion by Roush, seconded by Westfall.

3.Approval of 2016 Budget for Publication -- Roush made a motion to approve 2016 funds, General, Referendum, Debt Service, Transportation, Bus Replacement, Rainy Day, as well as the Capital Projects Fund plan and Bus Replacement Fund plan, for publication. His motion, seconded by Westfall, carried with a 4-0 vote.

III. COMMUNITY INPUT:none

IV. ACTION ITEMS:

1.Personnel; ECA Volunteers -- Caitie Horton and Amanda Price were approved as volleyball volunteers after a motion by Roush, seconded by Westfall, and a 4-0 vote.

2.Conference Requests: Conference requests were okayed for Abby McClain, Megan Workinger, Chase Anderson, Kristi Jenney, Jill Mounsey, John Purcell, Peggy Haigh, Amy Palmer, Becca Miner, and Doug Hunt, after a motion by Westfall, seconded by Scott, and a 4-0 vote.

3.Fundraiser Requests: Westfall made a motion approving several fundraiser activities following requests from Softball for a staff slow pitch game, Volleyball tumbler sales, and Basketball selling porkburgers. All were approved with a 4-0 vote after the motion was seconded by Roush.

4.Lawnmower Purchase -- The board considered several brands of lawnmowers from five area dealers, including both diesel and gas powered engines and decided on a diesel John Deere machine from Troxel after a motion by Klefeker, seconded by Westfall. The 2015 commercial machine will cost $19,920 including a 72” mower deck and striping kit with 14 bushel dump system.

V. REPORTS:

The next board meeting will be at 5 PM on Tuesday, September 15.

VI. SIGNING OF DOCUMENTS: All documents needing signed were duly signed.

VII. ADJOURNMENT: The signatures below certify that the minutes accurately reflect what occurred in the regular meeting and that only those items permitted by Indiana Code were discussed in the executive session.
