NEVADA ASSOCIATION OF STUDENT COUNCILS
A Division of the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association
Southern Region Representative Officer Report
November 22-23, 2009
- Completed from Last Meeting
- Make contact with schools
- Sent out an email with an update regarding the Conference and how they should stay on top of the Southern and Silver Star Requirements
- Have attended all the monthly President’s meetings, giving me the opportunity to build relationships with the Southern Presidents
- Help out student councils in unfortunate situations
- Virtual High School
- Schooling is conducted completely online, but is now establishing a Student Council
- Are unable to fundraise (due to their situation), so cannot afford Conference Registration fees (I have admitted one free student and advisor to the Southern Zone Conference)
- Is afraid of not being able to complete the Southern Star and Silver Star awards because how their Student Council was set up
- Was not assigned a Brother School, because they had not paid NASC due (all Brother School requirements were omitted)
- Explore Knowledge Academy
- Much like Virtual High School, Explore Knowledge is a new Student Council
- They are afraid of not receiving the Awards, which is discouraging them from trying
- Solution
- I have decided to bring up the possible amending of requirements for schools that are not new, but have new councils
- We will discuss this, and other solutions, later in the meeting
- Work on Southern Zone Conference
- Have booked a speaker- Scott Greenberg
- Have “debriefed” the class to ensure total participation from everyone
- Registration items are completed, and were sent out on Friday November 20
- Menu
- Lunch: Catered by Green Valley’s ProStart cooking program. We are doing a baseball game BBQ (Choice of pulled pork, jumbo hot dog, or green salad). Will include chips, drink, cookie, etc.
- Snack: Baby Ruth candy bar or CrackerJacks
- Dinner: Pasta with marinara, salad, and bread sticks (Catered by a local restaurant)
- Goals for Next Meeting
