Hi Everyone,
The 2017/2018 Waterborn Junior League Gala Series received tremendous support from many Gauteng Clubs and was a most valuable experience for all involved
Waterborn Swimming Club will once again host the series during the 2017/2018 season. The gala will be held at the Curro Aurora Aquatics Centre (indoor, heated 25m pool), the new home of Waterborn Swimming.
Galas will be held during the months of: -
- Sunday,10th September 2017-Gala No 1
- Sunday, 22nd October 2017-Gala No 2
- Sunday, 19th November 2017-Gala No 3
- Sunday, 21th January 2018-Gala No 4
- Sunday, 11th February 2018-Gala No 5
- Sunday, 4th March 2018 – Champs.
The objective of the galas is to encourage competition for junior swimmers in a friendly environment. The gala series will combine registered swimmers from clubs and non-registered swimmers from schools.The inter-school Friday afternoon galas are relay events. The Junior League Series offers an opportunity for school swimmers to compete as individuals in a competitive environment, without having to be a club member. Level 3 qualifiers may not enter.
Swimmers up to the age of 13 years may register to compete
The initiative aims to build camaraderie amongst junior swimmers and parents.
Documentation has been sent to several clubs and schools. Please encourage your child’s school and club friends to attend.
Please can you bring your gazebos which maybe set up on the top field opposite the center.

School going volunteers 16 years and older may use this as a community service credit for working at the galas.

Event Prizes
Ribbons will be awarded to the top 3 swimmers in each age group, for boys and girls.
Ribbons may be collected from the Ribbon Station. Both CGA registered and non-registered swimmers will be awarded ribbons.
Season End Awards: Overall Highest Points scored at the Champs Gala
Medals for the highest points scored at the Champs Galawill be awarded to the top male and female swimmers under the category of Registered and Non registered swimmers for the age groups 8 years & under, 9, 10, 11, 12, and 13 years.
Trophies for Top Points awards for the top 3 registered swimmers and the top 3 non-registered swimmers for the Champs Gala .
These prizes will be awarded at the conclusion of the Champs Gala held in March 2018.
Refreshments / Food Stalls
A tuck-shop will be open for the duration of the gala. Assorted drinks and meals/snacks will be available.
Rules of Competition
The gala is open to registered CGA Level 1and CGA Level 2 and CGA Level 3 swimmers and Social Swimmers this includes disability swimmers. (No SANJ swimmers)
Swimmers up to 13 years are eligible to participate (Age on day) of the event.
Race distances will be 25m for each individual stroke for age groups 10&U.
Race distances will be 50m for each individual stroke for age groups 11, 12, and 13.
The inter-school Friday afternoon galas are relay events. The Junior League Series offers an opportunity for school swimmers to compete as individuals in a competitive environment, without having to be a club member.
Age Group (10&U)
- 25m race for each stroke.
- 75m Junior IM (Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle).
Age Group (11, 1213)
- 50m races for each stroke.
- 100m Senior IM (Butterfly,Backstroke, Breaststroke and Freestyle).
- One 100m stroke event in a stroke will be offered at each gala.
Swimmers must compete in a minimum of 3 galas to be eligible to be in line to receive awards at Champs.
Races may be swum as mixed age-groups but results will be recorded in the correct age categories(Registered and Non Registered, and Disability)
All races will be swum as a timed final. Results = age on day 6,7,8,9,10,11,12 & 13 years.
The ONE START rule will apply
A8 or 10 lane format will apply

In case of a dispute, the decision of the Tournament Director and the Referee will be final.
