We are recruiting for mid to experienced engineer for a Materials Engineering opportunity for Southern Company Gas in Glen Ellyn, Illinois. Interviews for these positions will not be held at the NSBE 2017 Convention

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

·  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in indicated discipline from an ABET accredited college or university

·  EIT or PE preferred

·  2+ years of engineering or operations experience in a gas utility, pipeline transmission, or other energy related field including gas industry equipment manufacturing

·  US Citizen or Permanent Resident – sponsorships not available

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES (Varies with position):

·  Evaluates new products to be introduced into the system to verify material characteristics and that factory settings/testing are in compliance with applicable industry standards (e.g. ASTM and API) and Code requirements.

·  Ensures material quality through hand on quality assurance program.

·  Identifies and evaluates new technologies and materials in an effort to improve system integrity and achieve greater efficiency in the field activities being conducted. Prepares cost-benefit analysis on the impact of new technology on field operations.

·  Prepares communication plan in regards to the introduction of new products, changes to existing products and material failure analysis response.

·  Makes recommendations, in conjunction with Supply Chain, regarding alternate vendors or products based on findings from failure analysis testing and assists in establishing material recall plans as necessary.

·  Monitors utilization rates of new technologies to validate cost impact.

Materials Engineer - The Materials Engineer is responsible for evaluating new pipeline components, tools, and technologies for functionality, compatibility with existing systems, suitability to application, and quality. The position includes evaluating new materials and technologies to be used in the gas system, writing specifications for new materials and tools, and assisting in the implementation, tracking and reporting on status of the technology being introduced. The Materials Engineer is also responsible for performing quality management checks on incoming materials, investigating material failures, and ongoing evaluation of material and tooling performance.
