How have really BAD governments hurt Africa?
- HIV/AIDS-medicine is often lost or stolen and there is no education or prevention systems. This leads to less workers and lower GDP
- Famine-food is often stolen, Civil war destroys crops and farmland/prevents farming. This means less workers and lower GDP
- Girls going to school-tradition says boys go to school, girls stay home = lower literacy rates = lower GDP

- Countries in Europe took over places for natural resources, power, and to “civilize” the people in Africa and hurt it by grouping together fighting ethnic groups leading to years of conflict and civil war.
- Nigeria, Kenya, and South Africa led movements to gain their Independence. This was inspired by their love for their country or Nationalism.
- In South Africa, the government segregated the people under the Apartheidsystem. Men like F.W. de Klerkand Nelson Mandela protested and Mandelabecame the first black president of the country.
- Pan-Africanism was the movement to unite people of African descent to get rid of colonial/European rule.
