SOUTH WEST LEAGUE at EXETER, 2nd July 2017
Things seem to be getting together as we move through the season with many of the team managers getting out more athletes as the season progresses.
Starting with the under 13 girls, Hannah Clemo, Kerrie Shanley, Charli Dawson and Kimberley Knight all made an appearance and whats more we got out a relay team as well. The best result of the day was probably Kerrie Shanley’s second place in the high jump with 1.35m.
In the under 13 boys, Isaac Ketterer lead his category by example with strong support from Jack Harvey, Rhys Bowery, Kieran Rundle, Fin Thurman, Blake Williams and new member Mawgan Marshall.
The under 15 girls only had three athletes competing but nevertheless they did a sterling job in accumulating points with Lucy Allen leading the way. Isabel Jones and Tallula Golley completed the team.
The under 15 boys had star athlete Sam Brereton competing in long jump, hurdles and pole vault and getting PBs in all three. The other star in their line up was Bradley McLellan who won a great 1500m tussle. These two were ably supported by Jacob Lamboll, Joshua Clemow, Oscar Acraman and again N&P put out a relay team.
The under 17 women had Megan Hearn, Rhianna Giles, Paige Jenkin and Elowen Penfold who won the 1500m steeplechase in a very convincing manner. The performances all round ensured that the under 17 women finished in a very satisfactory third place.
The under 17 men had probably their strongest team of the season and they blitzed the opposition with maximum points in the triple jump (Huey Campbell 11.56, Ethan Harris 11.35) and in the 400m (Kaya Cairney 52.44, Lewis Cotterill 53.09), a feat that is rarely achieved. Others contributing to this powerful display were Joe Davidge and Luke Hopper. Needless to say they won the 4X400m relay.
The senior women were a little short this match but the ever present Rachel Howe and Sian Temple gave good account. And it was good to see the brief return of Charlotte Lowe as well as regular Katie Yeomans.
The under 20 men, as usual saw a fairly strong N&P presence with Aidan Patton having a great day with PBs in the long jump and pole vault and supported by Tom Harris, Jack Nancarrow and Tom Luton.
The senior men had ‘one man team’ Dan Pearce and the return of Jack Wightman, Chris Harris and David Dawson as well as Aidan Kent moving up an age group and be supported in the distance events by the ever reliable Liam Gallantry. And it went without question that they won their category and have now moved back to the top of the league.
The overall score put us second on the day and we are comfortably clear in third place over the season. Well done to all team managers – let’s hope we can top this performance in the final match at Exeter in September.
