SUMMARY OF THE POSITION

To co-ordinate and deliver programs and pathways to community engagement, enterprise and employment opportunities for excluded and marginalised young people and Adults. To achieve this by providing leadership training and work experience opportunities. We know from experience that there are many pathways to meaningful employment and we want to explore those less used paths. We also know that some people we work with will not be able to find traditional employment and we need to develop alternatives that provide some of the benefits of full time employment.

PROJECT CONTEXT

Weave has developed a partnership with Redlink that brings together traditional government services with community and non-government agencies to deliver a range of services to support to residents of the McKell building in Redfern and other Department of Housing Residents in the area.

The Social Enterprise worker will work closely with Redlink to support residents and provide work experience and support the development of the Men’s Shed as well as support the Weave employment hub and micro businesses that we can establish.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Identifying and supporting activities that engage participants in pathways to education, community engagement, enterprise or employment.
  • Working in partnership with community networks and agencies to meet local needs
  • Assist Weave’s community development worker to provide staff support for the Employment Hub provided at Wilson St Chippendale in conjunction with TAFE.
  • Assist Redlink in establishing the men’s shed and other community projects
  • Build and maintain community partnerships toDevelop and deliver innovative local programs
  • Increase opportunities for participants to engage with their community, and to access education, employment and enterprise development
  • Work with Local and State Govt to identify training and employment options.
  • Work with TAFE and other employment providers to support and develop Learning to Work programs and local enterprise initiatives
  • Building and maintaining relevant community and government networks.

STATEMENT OF DUTIES

  1. Facilitate a collaborative and innovative working and learning environment
  2. The worker will be expected to have a caseload of around 10 to 12 clients at any one time and take referrals from both Redlink and Weave.
  3. The worker will be expected to support and run groups
  4. Build and maintain community and stakeholder support and partnerships with FACs/Housing and Weave
  5. Establish links to relevant projects and partners in the area
  6. Leverage networks, in-kind support and funding for local initiatives
  7. Explore the feasibility of potential community enterprise projects
  8. Implement systems and processes for effective delivery of project outcomes
  9. Recruit and support participants with the help of Weave and Redlink
  10. Facilitate work placement opportunities, pathways to education, community engagement and employment for participants
  11. Work with other community agencies to support participants’ case management needs
  12. Provide regular and timely reports as required
  13. The worker will be expected to take on one small enterprise program
  14. The worker will be expected to assist with setting up the Mens Shed at McKell.

SELECTION CRITERIA

ESSENTIAL

  • Ability to develop social enterprise opportunities
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement programs that help young people and adults who have experienced medium to long term unemployment
  • Ability to work with diverse stakeholders and marginalised communities
  • Well-developed understanding of community development
  • Twoyearsormoreexperienceinprovidingholistic, client-centeredcaseworkandcasemanagement topeoplewithcomplexneeds
  • Demonstrated ability to develop innovative and responsive programs
  • Group work skills
  • High level organisational and project management skills
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Proven computer literacy and skills
  • A commitment to EEO policy and OH&S safety standards
  • Willingness to undergo a Child Protection check
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and experience in community development or equivalent years of experience
