Purpose
The Cleaning Coordinators role is to ensure a clean, well presented and safe environment for staff, visitors and the collection through a programme of planned and reactive cleaning tasks.
Key Tasks
Monitor and improve cleaning to ensure the museum’s public and back of house areas are presented to a high standard in keeping with the museums expectations and brand
- Linemanageme and performance manage cleaning staff
- Work intuitively to respond to the needs of the organisation
- Ensure that all staff are fully briefed about daily activities and have access to all current information
- Organize the team’s work to allow them to fulfill set objectives
- Manage staff rotas and holiday absences to ensure times of peak activities and events including all seasonal holidaysare well provided for with cleaning staff.
- Support the Head of Estates and Facilities with relevant KPI’s
- Ensure basic, maintenance and cleaning of equipment is undertaken
- Ensure all cleaning schedules are delivered
- Control levels of stock and ensure a ‘just in time’ ordering protocol exists
- Work with the Maintenance Coordinator in rationalizing external contracts to ensure value for money whilst maintaining statutory and quality standards.
- Supervise external contractors and internal staff to deliver a first class cleaning service
- Continually review and recommend efficient and alternative methods of service delivery
- Monitor performance and task achievement of all cleaning staff
- Adhere to Health and Safety procedures at all timesand ensure comprehensive risk assessments are in place
- Provide excellent customer care
- Support Museum projects and events as required.
- Undertake cleaning duties as required
- Introduce a system of Quality control and report on performance and quality of service provided
- Provide information and advice to the visitor by following the current RA customer standards policy
- Monitor and maintain standards of cleanliness and repair in areas of the museum’s public areas.
- Identify and report security risks and potential hazards
- Ensure expenditure is within allocated budgets and to flag up any variances
- To undertake any other tasks reasonable commensurate with the job role
Relationships
- Cultivate internal relationships that cross team boundaries and demonstrate a willingness to collaborate with all team members
- Maintain and build partnerships with senior managers and museum partners Contribute to and be a key member of the Gallery Maintenance programmes
- Work collaboratively with the Collections department in cleaning open displays

Reporting Structure
This post reports to the Head of Estates and Facilities
Hours
Working full time 37.5 hours per week, 5 days out of 7. Weekend, Bank Holiday and evening working may be required.
