Auto lifter gang busted: 6 members including two BCA students arrested: 12 stolen vehicles, stolen accessories, fake stamps, forged documents recovered.

INTRODUCTION:

With the arrest of six persons namely i) Manoj Kumar @ Thakur, aged 22 years resident of H.No. 28 D/3 Railway colony, Jungpura, Bhogal, Delhi ii) Manoj Kumar @ Jagga, aged 22 years resident of H.No. 76, Masjid lane, Bhogal, New Delhi; iii) Shashank @ Pinki, aged 19 years resident of 21/1 Bhogal road Jungpura; iv) Dipankar, aged 24 years resident of H.No. 1503/13, Gobind Puri, Kalka Ji, New Delhi; v) Ajeet Kumar, aged 21 years resident of E-170, Sector 9, Vijay Nagar, Gaziabad, UP and vi) Sanjay Kumar, aged 22 years resident of Baraut, UP, the South District police has solved 34 cases of auto thefts reported from various places in Delhi in recent past. Further, with their arrest the police have so far recovered 10 stolen motorcycles, two cars, accessories of stolen motor bikes, fake stamps, forged documents etc.

INCIDENT:

For the last few months there was a spurt in the thefts of motor vehicles especially pulsar motorcycles were targeted from posh areas of South Delhi viz. Malviya Nagar, Defence Colony, Lodhi Colony, Lajpat Nagar, Kotla, Sarojini Nagar, Patel Nagar, Farsh Bazar, Nizamuddin etc. The crime reportedly took place around midnight. In order to nab the gang involved in all these thefts, several teams of south district police were pressed into service.

TEAM, INVESTIGATION & ARREST:

The team of police station Lodhi Colony consisting of SI Virender Prakash, ASI Shashi Kant, HCs Satender, Balbir, Vinod, Tarachand, Rajender, Suresh and consts. Sachin, Umesh, Manjeet, Asgar Ali under the supervision of Inspr. Rajender Singh, SHO/Lodhi Colony and Sh. Vikramjeet Singh, ACP/Defence Colony laid traps in the area and developed sources to get specific intelligence regarding the criminals involved in the crime. They raided several places in Trans Yamuna area and Jungpura-Bhogal and also scrutinised the records (Dossiers) of criminals who had earlier been involved in thefts of Pulsar motorcycles. During the course of investigation of a motorcycle theft case registered at police station Lodhi Colony, the team arrested three persons from Jungpura area on 02.07.09 and police had been able to recover five motorcycles from them which were reportedly stolen by the gang. One motor cycle was found to be stolen from the area of Mehrauli whereas the engine and chassis numbers of other four motor cycles were found to be punched/tempered. Efforts are being made to verify as to wherefrom these motorcycles had been stolen. Two persons namely Manoj @ Thakur and Manoj @ Jagga were taken on two days police custody remand to neutralise the network of the gang and to arrest the receivers of stolen vehicles. After putting in sustained efforts and at the instance of both the accused persons in custody three more persons were arrested from Jungpura flyover area on 4.7.09 at around 9 PM while they were moving around on a stolen motor cycle. At their instance five more stolen motor cycles were recovered. Two motorcycles have so far found to be stolen from Farsh Bazar and Nizamuddin whereas engine number and chessis numbers of other recovered motor cycles were found to be tempered. Two stolen cars viz. Maruti Esteem and Indica have also been connected to them as they after committing theft of these vehicles removed accessories of these vehicles and left the vehicles abandoned in NOIDA and Delhi which were later recovered by the police. A separate case for receiving stolen property and preparing forged documents and fake registration number plates was registered against all these three persons namely Deepankar, Ajeet and Sanjay.

INTERROGATION:

On Sustained interrogation the arrested accused persons disclosed that they had committed around 35 incidents of motor vehicles thefts in various places in Delhi. There were two sets of persons. First set of persons which were led by the leader of the gang namely Manoj @ Thakur assisted by Manoj @ Jagga and Shashank @ Pinki used to steal the motor cycles around midnight by applying force to break the handle lock. They would park all these stolen vehicles after affixing fake number plates at various places in and around Jangpura and the next day they would deliver the same to Deepanker resident of Gobind Puri, the leader of the other set of persons. Deepakar who is a BCA student of a reputed GaziabadManagementCollege would further join his colleague in the college namely Ajeet and Sanjay for the disposal of these stolen motorcycles/vehicles after preparing forged papers through Kasganj transport Authority, UP through one of the contacts of Ajeet. At the instance of these criminals seven motorcycles have so far been recovered.

They have further disclosed that they would take the stolen motor cycle to Ghaziabad and would superimpose the engine number, chassis number and registration number plates of old and genuine motorcycles, on the stolen motorcycles so that they could sell these motor cycles as genuine.

PROFILE:

1.Deepankar, aged 24 years is a final year BCA student of a reputed Management college of Ghaziabad. He had further applied to JamesCookUniversity in Singapore for higher studies. He has also been national level swimmer and also participated in a mass awareness rally against child labour organised by his School from Bharuch to Surat in Gujarat.

2.Ajeet Kumar, aged 21 years is also a final year BCA student of the same college and was classmate of Deepankar. His father is Lecturer of Biology in a college. He has got good contacts in Kashganj Transport Authority from whom he managed to receive all the forged papers for these stolen vehicles.

3.Sanjay Kumar is a Mobile phone tower technician attached with a Multinational company.

4.Manoj@ Thakur, the leader of the gang had earlier been involved in around 10 cases of auto thefts and last time arrested from Sarup Nagar and Lodhi Colony police stations and released from Jail in March 2009. He is a good stuntman.

5.Manoj @ Jagga is a close associate of Manoj @ Thakur and has earlier been involved in quarrel cases from S.N. Puri area. He is a school drop out.

6.Shashank @ Pinki, 19 years is also a school drop out.

RECOVERY:

1.10 stolen motorcycles;

2.Two stolen cars i.e. Esteem and Indica;

3. Forged and blank documents related to various Transport Authority in UP;

4.Fake number plates;

5.Fake stamps;

6.Motor cycle parts/accessories;

Efforts are being done to recover more stolen motor vehicles from various areas in Delhi and UP and to arrest other criminals involved in the theft and preparing forged documents in connivance with the transport authority officials.

Two more active members of desperate Sonu Kharab Gang of Robbers arrested.

They are involved in more than five recent sensational cases of murder and robberies

The Crime Branch has arrested two desperate criminals Rohit @ Kara and Updesh @ Chintu. Both are members of the Sonu Kharab gang.They were involved in more than 5 cases including a recent murder in Najafgarh and a sensational robbery case of PS Paschim Vihar in which cash Rs. 25 lakhs was looted from a businessman after firing upon him. Two motorcycles and one stolen Santro car has been recovered from the possession of the accused persons.

The details of the accused are as under:

1.Rohit @ Kara (19 years) r/o Roshanpura Extn. Najafgarh,Delhi.

2.Updesh @ Chintu (23 years) r/o Dharampura, Najafgarh, Delhi.

Following its recent success in arresting 3 members, including the gangleader, of the Sonu Kharab gang, the Crime Branch had launched a hunt for the remaining gang members. Two sections of Crime Branch received information regarding the activities of Rohit @ Kara and Updesh @ Chintu. Twoteams led by Insp. Suresh Kumar of the Anti-Extortion Cell and comprising of SI Sanjeev Kumar, SI Shiv Raj Tyagi, ASI Rajbir Singh, HC Satpal, HC Sanjay, HC Yashpal, HC Rajender and the other led by SI. Ritesh of the Special Team were constituted to apprehend them. Rohit was arrested by the AEC team on 04.07.2009, at Lado Sarai Crossing near Qutub Minar in Mehrauli area while he was riding a Red Yamaha Motor cycle No. DL-10-S-0364. Updesh @ Chintu was arrested near Bahadurgarh Bus Stand Najafgarh by the Special Team at 03:30 am on 5.7.09 while travelling in a stolen Santro car HR-26-AN-1378. This car was involved in a murder in Najafgarh recently and a case, vide FIR No. 126/09 u/s 379 IPC PS. Nihal Vihar was found registered for the same. Rohit has been arrested inCase FIR No. 101/09 u/s 186/353/307/34 IPC r/w 25/27 Arms Act PS Crime Branch while Updesh has been arrested in FIR 154/09 u/s 307/34 IPC PS. PalamVillage, Delhi.

The accused persons have disclosed their involvement in the recent murder case of Najafgarh. On 28.06.2009, Rohit and Updesh alongwith their associates Sanjeev @ Sunny, Neeraj @ Bunty and Satish, shot and killed one Arun in the area of Najafgarh. A case vide FIR No. 205/09 dated 28.06.2009 u/s 302/34 IPC& 25, 27 Arms Act was registered at PS Najafgarh in this regard. The stolen Santro car recovered from Updesh was used in this crime. Thereason for the murder is that they suspected Arun of having illicit relations with the sister of one of the gang members.

Rohit @ Kara was previously arrested in Case FIR No. 581/08 u/s 308/452/34 IPC & 25 Arms Act. The recovered brand new Yamaha motorcycle was purchased by him from the amount which he received from Sonu as his share in the Paschim Vihar robbery.

Updesh @ Chintu is also a desperate criminal. He is a Bad Character of PS. Najafgarh. He was externed from South West District due to his criminal activities. He was found involved in several cases of attempt to murder, armed robbery, snatching etc. Updesh is also the main arms supplier to the gang. He had bought 11 sophisticated pistols through one Ashok Bhadoriya who is presently lodged in Agra jail. After being externed, Updesh had taken accommodation in Sector 9 Bahadurgarh which he had furnished with his share of the looted money. A TVS motorcycle has also been recovered at his instance.

With these arrests, the Crime Branch has succeeded in accounting for all the desperate members of the Sonu Kharab gang which had shot into prominence in the past few weeks with their desperate criminal acts. Efforts are on to nab the remaining gang members. The concerned police stations have been informed about the arrests for necessary action at their end.
