POSITION DESCRIPTION

Position:Christian Education Director

The CE Director works with the Pastor and the Board of Christian Education to coordinate the educational and spiritual programming for children ages infant through high school. We seek someone with a heart both for children and for their relationship with God, someone who will engage positively with the wider congregation and encourage this engagement between all ages. This is a 25-hour week salaried position, 4-weeks paid vacation.

BASIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Administrative and Communicative Duties

  • Attend weekly staff meetingsand monthly Community of Practice Meetings.
  • Provide announcements for weekly bulletins and monthly church newsletter.
  • Provide office and other staff with appropriate CE records.
  • Meet regularly with the Pastor for support, planning and visioning for CE faith formation.
  • Assist Pastor in maintaining church’s website, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts.
  • Send regular updates and maintain contact with families enrolled in Sunday school.
  • Maintain active record of families within the church and attendance records in Sunday school and at other CE programs.
  • Yearly Reports: Assist CE Board in creating budget and submitting annual report.

Staffing and Leadership Duties

  • Implement and maintain the “Safe Church” policies and procedures.
  • Recruit staff to serve as Sunday school teachers and nursery attendants.
  • Maintain up-to-date CORI records and record hourly wages for Sunday school staff.
  • Coordinate and run seasonal and weekly training sessions with Sunday school teachers.
  • Lead monthly CE board meetings addressing CE concerns, upcoming events, and service ideas.

Curriculum & Professional Development

  • Collaborate with nursery attendant to create a fun and safe environment for children 0-preK and create seasonal curricula and activities to foster faith formation.
  • Purchase and design supplemental, developmentally appropriate, Sunday school curriculum for grades K-5 with guidelines and educational goals set in place by CE Board.
  • Primary (K-2): Prayer Development & Familiarity with Biblical Stories
  • Middler (3-5): Biblical literacy, Knowledge of History and Present UCC Church, and Understanding the Meaning and Order of Worship.
  • Seek out and encourage age-appropriate service projects for Sunday school children.
  • Coordinate rotational youth (grades 6-12) Sunday school curricula with church volunteers.
  • Attend seasonal professional development workshops offered through MACUCC to enhance ministry with children and families.

Youth Program

  • Communicate with CE and Youth Ministry Directors of local churches to coordinate opportunities for youth faith formation and fellowship.
  • Encourage youth participation in church events.
  • Collaborate with Outreach Board to create service opportunities for youth.
  • Participate and assist in fundraising and activities associated with ASP group.
  • Assist CE board in reaching out to possible Webb Scholarship applicants.

Family Programs/Ministry

  • Introduce self to new families with school-aged children and help to make them feel welcome.
  • Develop a comfortable degree of familiarity with all families and maintain a continuing level of interest.
  • Keep abreast of families in crisis.
  • Assist the CE Board with annual family and outreach events.
  • Recruit and train acolytes.
  • Prepare and seasonally update Activity Bags for use during worship.
  • Collaborate with Pastor to create special annual children/youth-led services.
