South African Refereeing
The Refereeing sub-committee has made changes to the various levels of refereeing and these will be implemented during the year. The first target for the presentation of courses is the SACD areas as the SACD and Festival tournament will take place from 10th – 14th May.
South African Coaching
Squash South Africa has signed an agreement with Brand Identity through which Dunlop will
provide R75000 of clothing and equipment. Together we will be launching Play and Stay – aimed at 5-11 year olds – the package contains balls and rackets graded in the colours of the traffic lights: red, amber, green. Mr Prior has written a Play and Stay module which will be either a stand alone module for parents and teachers or which will be added to the Squash Organiser and Level1 curriculums.
Development Projects
41 development projects funded by SRSA are underway around the country.
Egoli’s blow up squash court travelled to Pietermaritzburg where Midlands Squash Association
used it in a highly successful road show.
These projects will concentrate on Women in Sport: School Sport: Disadvantaged Youth and Educators, Coaches and Referees.
This year’s projects will be hosted in Central Gauteng, Easterns, Northerns, Northern Free State, Free State, North West Boland, Western Province, Eastern Province (Port Elizabeth, Grahamstown and Middelburg), Border (Mthatha and East London) , Kwazulu Natal, Midlands,Zululand as well as by SAPS, Correctional Services and SANDF.
Hundreds of players get an introduction to squash and the enthusiasm and time spent by the co-ordinators is really appreciated.
S A Masters Association
Ian Paterson, Chairperson of the S AMasters Squash Association chaired a productive General Meeting at Jeppe Quondam on Sunday 7th February. This was attended by representatives from Central Gauteng, Northerns, Easterns, Midlands, Kwazulu Natal, SWD, Eastern Province, Border and Western Province.
2016 is the year for the S A Masters Games Association’s 9th Games. South African Masters
(chairperson at that time Roy Kirby ) was one of the founder members, but in the last decade we have not been that active. The Assore S A Masters National Championships, to be played at the Parkview Centre from 10th-14th March, will be our part of the Games.
Lottery
Squash South Africa received the last tranche of the 2010 allocation which is designated for capacity building (Refereeing and Coaching workshops) as well as High Performance (Academies) in December 2015. There is also still an amount for Ball machines.
In the previous two allocations there was also funding for the capacity building workshops which created an overlap as we were not able to deliver due to various reasons eg not enough highly qualified presenters: dates (the coaches work mainly at the weekends) BUT we will deliver as later applications depend on us finishing this allocation.
World Rankings
February 2016 sees Steve Coppinger slip to 22 – the first time he has been out of the top 20 for nearly 2 years – a really merit worthy achievement !
Shaun le Roux is still in the top 50 at 48: Clinton Leeuw is at 131 followed by Thoboki Mohohlo at 135: JP Brits at 199 and Christo Potgieter at 224.
Siyoli Waters leads the women at 35: Alexandra Fuller is 72: Cheyna Tucker at 73 and Milnay Louw at 103.
Squash South Africa Registration
The number of registrations is picking up but it does seem as though a number of people are unaware of the scheme or are still hesitant. Please contact the chairperson of your club or region or the Squash South Africa office to obtain more information.
The goal of the money raised by the registration is to promote and expose squash at all levels as well as to provide funding for players to participate in world events.
The decision was taken at the January Executive Meeting that priority will be given to the senior national teams: 2016 women: 2017 men.
There is no funding at present for the Junior Men’s team to participate in the World Junior Men’s Team and Individual Championships for 2016 nor for the junior women to participate in the Junior Individual Junior Women’s event.
Tsogo Sun
Squash South Africa and Tsogo Sun have signed a further contract for 2016. Squash South Africa receives a number of free rooms to be used at their discretion. Any registered player can book rooms at reduced rates through the Squash South Africa Office for business or holiday.

To date there is no funding for prize money for the Senior National Championships scheduled for the Wanderers from 25th June to 1st July 2016.
The 2016 All African Under 19 Championships scheduled for Egypt have been cancelled as
apart from Egypt, none of the other countries have funding for their teams.
460 entries have been received for the Bloemfontein Junior Open Championships to be played from 4-6 March.
