Orientation
Front
On the front of the Sonic, in the middle, you will find a large circular dial. This is used to turn the device on and off and also to control the volume. Rotate clockwise to switch player on, hearing a click, and then continue turning clockwise to increase volume. Directly above the round dial is a small light to indicate when the Sonic is on and when it is charging. It shows blue when it is on and red when it is on charge. The blue light will flash on and off when the memory stick is being played. The red light will go out when the battery is fully charged. To the left and the right of this dial are the speakers.
Back
Turn the unit around so that the back is facing towards you. On the back of the Sonic you will find two circular sockets. The socket on the left is where you will insert the power supply (it has a square yellow surround) and the one on the right (with a circular yellow surround) is for inserting a pair of headphones.
On the right hand side is the rectangle battery panel. Near the top about an inch from the right edge you can feel a clip that allows you to remove the panel to get to the battery.
Special Warning: Please note that the Sonic unit must be turned on before headphones are inserted into the socket to ensure sound is only played through the headphones.
Top edge
Place the Sonic so that the front is facing towards you.
Along the top of the device you will find four buttons and a rectangular socket. From left to right the buttons are:
- Yellow triangular button: track back/rewind (press once to skip back a track or hold down to rewind within the track)
- Yellow square button: play/pause/bookmark (press button during play to pause audio, and again to resume. Pressing Pause will also place a bookmark onto the memory stick)
- Yellow triangular button: track forward/fast forward (press once to skip forward a track or hold down to fast forward)
- Behind the track forward button is a yellow circular button. This is reset or skip book (press once to skip to the next book/folder or hold down to reset to the beginning
of track 1, folder 1)
- Behind the Square play/pause/bookmark button is a rectangular USB socket.
Using the product
Playing Memory Sticks
To play a memory stick, simply insert it into the USBsocket on the top of the player and switch on. (If using the player without a battery, switch on before inserting the memory stick). The Sonic emits a tune to indicate it is turning on, will find the audio andstart playing automatically. You can then use the buttons as described in the orientation section to navigate the audio content.
Connecting with Bluetooth
Connecting to the Sonic via Bluetooth does not require any buttons to be pressed on the Sonic. Simply search for and select the Sonic on your Bluetooth device (Mobile Phone, Tablet etc.) to connect. You will hear a tone through the player (if switched on) when the connection has been made.
Please note: Bluetooth is not useable when a USB stick is inserted.
Charging the battery
We recommend your first charge lasts 6-8 hours and thereafter charge for 1-2 hours as required. Do not charge overnight, and only use the charger supplied with the player.
If you intend to use the Sonic on mains power only, we recommend removing the battery.
Changing the Battery
Locate the battery panel clip on the back near the top edge, about an inch from the right edge. With your nail pull the clip towards the base whilst lifting upwards. The flap will lever out and can be removed. To remove the battery, using your finger nail on the right edge of the battery, push to the left slightly and lever upwards to remove.
To replace, position the battery so that you can feel on one of the short edges on the left hand side, 3 rectangle recesses – these are the contact points. When inserting the battery, position it with these contact points sliding in first, close to the bottom from right to left, so that the long edge is running parallel with the base.
Some sighted assistance may be required to change the battery.
Using Headphones
The headphone socket is located on the rear of the player to the left of the battery compartment. The headphone port is a raised circle shape and is painted in yellow. Only ‘mini-jack’ headphone connectors will fit into the socket.
Special Warning: Please note that the Sonic unit must be turned on before headphones are inserted into the socket to ensure sound is only played through the headphones.
Please note: Bluetooth headphones will not work with the Sonic. The Sonic is a Bluetooth receiving device, for playback through the speakers or the headphone socket, but will not transmit the signal to Bluetooth headphones.
