Song writing workshop

Hi. Hope you’re well. Here’s an update on what Cloth Cat is up to at the moment and what opportunities may be coming up in the near future

Gigs

Thanks for everyone who came down to the benefit gig at The Library Pub we had on last month in partnership with Archway. It was a great atmosphere and all the bands were top drawer with The Scandal, Mystery Soup, DeLorean Drivers and Les Vegas & The International Playboys of Rhythm. We raised £400 between the two organisations so thanks again!

Instrumental

We also ran the latest Instrumental at Inkwell on 1st March and there were so many people there that we finally had to close the door so we didn’t contravene the licence capacity. Again, it was a great night and raise some money to run the Song Writers Club at Inkwell with Shaun T Hunter which is on the last Monday of the month. It’s open to anyone so if you’re interested in learning more about song writing and sharing ideas please go along, the sessions run from 6.30-9.00pm. There’s more information here:

The next Instrumental at Inkwell will take place on Friday 5th April. We’re just putting it together as we speak but so far on the bill we have Matt Bentley, Steph Stephenson and Michael Arnold. Doors open at 7pm and it’s £3 in on the door.

Speaking of Instrumental, we have the nextevent at The Swarthmore Centre on Saturday 16th Marchand which raises awareness and funds for mental health projects around Leeds including Arts & Minds, Cloth Cat and the HighRoydsMemorialGarden along with Swarthmore. We've got a great line-up of acts so please come down. Doors open at 7.30pm and it's £4.00 in. There will also be a very reasonably priced bar run by Swarthmore. On the bill are:
Hailbails (
“A rockabilly party band formed with members of the Lovesick Cowboys, The Cash Machine, Tag Team Preacher and The Lodger playing Yorkshirecana, Northern Swing, Rock and Roll!”
The Mystery Soup (
"Leeds supergroup bring an eclectic range of songs to waltz, swing and skank to and played on a whole array of exciting instruments!"
Cosmic Charlie’s Big Mouth Jug Stompers (
Folk and blues with more instruments including mandolins, guitars, harmonicas, kazoos and lots of foot stomping!
Rory Scammell (
Otherwise known as the Hurdy Gurdy Man – probably one of the most travelled open mic-ers in the country and the biggest widest set of tunes ranging from 15th century folk to rave!
Amy Claro (
Amy continues to develop and broaden her sound with well crafted and thoughtful pop with more than a hint of Kate Bush tied in with her songs!

The Beck

Cloth Cat are running a project with a group of disadvantaged young people aged 13 to 18 at The Beck, a resource centre in Seacroft where we’re developing their musical skills and honing them in to playing together in a band
What we are looking for is male singers who preferably can play guitar or piano and have a bit of rhythm also a bonus would be if they know how to use
reason or cubase etc. we need1 possibly 2 members to fill the line up, the music genre is taking songs that you wouldnt expect to see harmonies added to and remix them to
a vocal group style either acoustic, acapella or to a totally remixed track. We have management in waiting and a few festivals interested but really need theother members to get ready and have a full sound. Looks are not mega important but as you understand there is a limit lol. If you know of any interested from either your classes or other means then feel free to pass on my email, we just need a picture, a small bio of experience, age etc and a demo if possible quality isnt really too important as long as we can hear it.
