Doug Porter Memorial Student Scholarship

The purpose of Vaughn Industries scholarship award is to provide graduating seniors, who are seriously seeking a career in the construction trades, the opportunity for success. Some of the best paying jobs available for young people today are in the construction trades.

Vaughn Industries offers apprenticeship programs in all of our specialized trades: Electrical, High Voltage Transmission & Distribution, High Voltage Substation Electrician, Mechanical, and Pipefitter.

The Electrical, High Voltage Substation Electrician, Mechanical, and Pipefitter programs are 4 year programs. Vaughn Industries 4 Year Programs are state and federally registered with the State of Ohio Apprenticeship Council. The High Voltage Transmission & Distribution (Power Lineman) program is an intensive 3 year program. Vaughn Industries 3 Year Programs are accredited through Northwest Lineman College.

Apprentices receive skills, knowledge and understanding of the trade through hands on learning on the job site and through labs and bookwork in the apprenticeship classes. Apprentices must maintain a minimum grade average of 70 percent. Apprentices are required to obtain a minimum of144 hour of classroom training per year. Classes meet one day per week starting in September. Classes are held at our Vaughn Industries Training Center located at our corporate office in Carey, Ohio.

·  The scholarship is available to only one high school senior per year.

·  Only students who apply for the Vaughn apprenticeship program will be considered for the scholarship award.

·  The student must complete the necessary paper work and submit it to Vaughn Industries for consideration by no later than March 2, 2018.

·  The size of the scholarship award is $1000.00 unrestricted, and will be paid directly to the recipient in annual installments, as long as the recipient remains employed at Vaughn Industries or the until the limit is reached.

2.  LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION: Letters of recommendation from two teachers and one from your high school counselor

3.  PERSONAL STATEMENT:

b.  one page narrative, why you have chosen construction as your career path

d.  Career goals, give specific examples

e.  List any past or current efforts, toward making a difference in your community

4.  IMPORTANT INFORMATION AND INSTRUCTIONS

·  The student must apply in person at Vaughn Industries, for a full time apprenticeship position during the month of February 2018.

·  The student will be requested to come to Vaughn Industries for a personal interview.

·  Do not staple any of the documents.

·  Mail all items in one package, Please do not fax or email the application, use U.S. Mail

·  Falsification of any information will result in the termination of the scholarship.
