Soil Formation Poster

Soil is the loose covering of weathered rock particles and decaying organic matter, called humus, overlying the bedrock of Earth’s surface, and serves as a medium for the growth of plants. Soil is the product of thousands of years of chemical and mechanical weathering and biological activity.

You will create an illustration that demonstrates the production of soil including differentiating between the 4 soil horizons, how biological activity influences the soil, as well as other factors. Use pgs 176-180, as well as the rubric to help you with this task.

Criteria has been met; the student has taken their time; the project is neat and colorful.
Soil Horizon O is accurately represented according to the description in the text. / /10
Soil Horizon A is accurately represented according to the description in the text. / /10
Soil Horizon B is accurately represented according to the description in the text. / /10
Soil Horizon C is accurately represented according to the description in the text. / /10
In Horizon O, there are at least 3 ways organisms are influencing the soil. / /10
At least 2 of the following factors of soil formation are represented: climate, topography, parent material, biological activity, or time. / /10
