SOHS PTSA Board Meeting Minutes

May 16, 2016

Call to Order/Welcome

Called to order by Lori Moss at 9:15 a.m.

President’s Report – Lori Moss

  • Lori Moss reported that this was Pam Brown’s last meeting. Lori presented Pam with a plaque commemorating her many years of service to the PTSA. Pam said she would be available to help until things were re-established with new leaders. Deb Long is also ALL DONE and was thanked for her years of service as well. Deb will also be available to help is/as needed.
  • Lori also reported that the District PTSA contacted her and wanted to take over College & Career night, but after discussing with various people turned them down. She feels it will be more successful if we keep it as it is currently.
  • Lori introduced two new SBDM parents to the group. Francine is a neighbor to Lori and has been involved in SBDM in several schools. She has an incoming freshman this fall. Betty Beyerle has also been involved in other schools and has one currently at SOHS and an incoming freshman as well. Donna Allen has one more year with SDBM.
  • Lori reported that the other open spots on the Board for next year are filled. She is in need of a Publicity Chair for College & Career Night.
  • There were no Minutes to approve.

Treasurer’s Report – Stacey King

See attachment for the Budget. Stacey reported we are giving $300 to Principal Griffin for this Friday’s Griffipalooza.

Principal’s Report – Jeff Griffin

  • Jeff announced that Mrs. Bramer is leaving after this year. He is closing in on hiring a Spanish teacher and may have to look for a French teacher.
  • Griffin wants to have the new superintendent come to SOHS as soon as he starts so we can hopefully get moved up in the schedule for renovations.
  • He commented that the district will have to re-district within the next couple of years. We are over capacity and North is far under, with an average of 18 students per class and empty classrooms.
  • Griffin discussed the upcoming Griffipalooza and asked for volunteers. PTSA will provide 600 cupcakes for the event.
  • Griffin also discussed the topic of “sexting”, which needs to be addressed earlier in the year and younger (especially with incoming freshmen).
  • Lastly, Principal Griffin discussed the topic of transgender students, bathrooms, and what is required. Donna Allen brought it up as it was a topic that came up in band uniform distributions.

Membership Report – Rachael Buschman

Rachael was absent but there is nothing to report. Marcie Donnelly will help Rachael if/as needed.

Ways and Means Report – Kathie Powell

Kathie was absent but Stacey reported that of the 305 seniors 59 purchased graduation signs. We made $400.

College & Career Nights – Pam Brown

There is a meeting on May 26th at SOHS to set the calendar for next year. Kathy Lowry was at the meeting but her daughter is graduating so a replacement is needed for advertising. Lori suggested starting a Facebook page for C&C Night for parents. The College Fair is set for September 8th.

The Art Show went very well. The Auditorium was very easy to set up. There was a suggestion to have the teachers see it first before bringing their classes. The judges appreciated it and want to come back next year. See attached list of winners.
