Our Current Reality:
51.5 % of 7th graders and 35.8% of 8th graders are below grade level expectations in reading, based on our state assessment (MSP)
1. Smart Goal: By Spring 2012, the following percentages of students will meet standard on the MSP:
7th reading: 82.5%
8th reading: 82.5%
7th writing: 82.5%
2. Smart Goal: By Spring 2012, Meeker MS will have a 10% increase in the number of SE reading students that meet standard on the 7th and 8th grade Reading MSP /
- The Social Studies Dept. will complete the “must know”, “should know”, and “could know” sections of the power standards during weekly PLC meeting time and submit on Moodle.
- Social Studies PLC will begin work on common formative assessments which focus on content vocabulary and informational text.
- Social Studies LT will identify a student need, informational text, and begin the 7 Step Cycle.
- Social Studies teachers are more intentional
- Students will show content vocabulary fluency and students will show improved ability to read and interpret maps and graphs.
- Social Studies PLC will continue to work on common formative assessments for content vocabulary and informational text.
- Social Studies LT will monitor the progress of the 7 Step Cycle on informational text.
- Social Studies teachers will identify students who need additional assistance and recommend them for intervention classes.
- Data will support continued student improvement in the ability to read and interpret maps and
- Students will receive appropriate support in reading.
- Teachers will continue to use or modify instructional strategies for informational text based upon formative assessment data.
- Teachers will make changes to the Learning Team 7 Step Cycle based upon the data and discussion within the LT.
- If the informational text objective is met then the LT will develop a new student need and start a new cycle.
- 80% of students will display mastery of informational text formative assess-
