Task Description

Christian Aid

Christian Aid is an international development charity. We work with local partner organisations in 40 countries around the world to end extreme poverty, provide emergency relief and campaign for global change. We are sponsored by 41 churches in Britain and Ireland.

Significance of the role

Social media volunteers work with Christian Aid area staff and supporters to create content and increase social networks to raise the profile of Christian Aid in the South East England region.

As a Christian Aid social media volunteer you will have the opportunity to use and develop your skills in digital communications. You will also make a significant contribution to Christian Aid’s work in fighting poverty by bringing the issues to as wide an audience as possible.

What will I do?

You will work alongside members of Christian Aid staff.

Activities could include:

  • Planning, creating and scheduling content for regional Facebook and Twitter pages
  • Increasing the audience of our regional Facebook and Twitter pages
  • Networking with churches and key individuals to widely share our posts
  • Attending regional events

Examples of areas of work that require social media support include:

  • Key moments – Christian Aid Week (May), Christmas appeal
  • Campaign moments. The next climate campaign moment will be in July 2017
  • Local fundraising events
  • Emergencies (looking for local angles when a major disaster is in the news)

What skills do I need?

-Essential

  • You will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s values and vision
  • Experience of using Facebook and Twitter in a personal or professional capacity
  • Strong written English and writing skills
  • Creative communicator
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to be proactive (creative your own content) and reactive (responding to Christian Aid national content and priorities)
  • An ability to inspire and motivate others

-Desirable

  • Aware of current trendsin social media
  • Understanding of church audiences and language
  • Good organisational skills
  • A good knowledge and enthusiasm for the work of Christian Aid

How much time can I give?

This is a flexible role. The ideal candidate will commit to a minimum of half a day or a day a week for 3 months (possible extension). This can be worked from our office (Oxford or London Waterloo) or remotely from home.
