TASK:Using the articles bookletprovided, research the issue of ‘Social Media’ and prepare for a written Point of View to be written in class, under SAC conditionsusing ONE of the prompts below as a stimulus. Your writing piece requires you to present a reasoned and sustained point of view, supported by evidence (facts, statistics and expert opinion).Your writing must be persuasive and you will need to use the tools of persuasion to argue your point convincingly.
FOUR Prompts to reflect the different issues within the issue(CHOOSE ONLY ONE)
  • Social media is damaging for the mental health of teenagers.
  • The positive effects of social media outweigh the negatives.
  • Children under 18 should only be able to access social media with a shared parental login.
  • Social Media is distorting our ability to detect fake news.

  • Teacher distributes Articles booklet for you to take home. Class brainstorms and plans, drawing from these resources with POV topics.
  • Provide evidence of draftingfor your written statement of intention that outlines the decisions made during the development of your point of view writing piece.

  • From this point, your teacher can only make general, verbal comments about your work.
  • Students may have with them 1 A4 double sided sheet of notes/plan (see Allowable Materials)
  • All work including plan to be collected by the teacher at the end of the lesson.

  • Work collected the previous lesson is redistributed and students continue writing and editing their response to improve spelling, grammar, punctuation and expression.
  • All work including plan to be collected for assessment

Word Limit
  • Point of view piece: 800-1200 words
  • Statement of intention: 300 words
Allowable Materials
  • Pens, highlighters, pencils
  • Dictionary/Thesaurus
  • Articles booklet
  • One handwritten A4 double sided sheet of notes in dot-point form. It should contain the information you need and a brief plan– no full paragraphs or completed drafts are permitted.

Absences
  • Students who miss a class during the SAC due to illness will need to provide a medical certificate (immediately upon returning to school) in order for time in lieu to be arranged.
Assessment of SAC
  • There are 30 possible marks for this SAC. Use the marking rubric provided to ensure your responses demonstrate the key knowledge and skills of this Outcome.
