Soccer Study Guide

Remember we didn’t play a full game, games we played were modified to fit our class, test will be based off of rules we learned along with real soccer game rules.

Kickoff: Are taken to 1) start the game and are used for strategy to keep the ball not to kick the ball to the other team like in other sports. 2) At the beginning of the second half the team that did not kick off at the beginning of the game will now have the chance to kick off. 3) After a score happens, when one team scores the other team gets to kick off to start play. 4) ball is placed at centerfield. 5) two players from the kick off team can be in the center circle during the kick off.

Players: Actual soccer team plays with 11 players on a field at one time; this includes goalie, defenders, midfield, and offensive players. While in our games we played with 4 to 6 players to modify the game.

Goalie: Can use their hands only in the goal box, privilege of using hands is to stop the ball from going into the goal. Cannot use their hands out of the box, but can leave the box if they want.

Time: Soccer is played with two 45 min periods; extra time can be added if the referee thinks their needs to be for stoppage.

Goal Kick: Are taken by the defense team near the goal after the ball travels out of bounds due to the offense or attacking team kicking it out over the goal line.

Corner Kick: Are taken by the offense team at the corner of the goal line and sideline, after the ball travels out of bounds due to the defense team kicking it out over the goal line.

Handball: is called on the player if the ball touches anywhere from the shoulders down to the fingertips teams on the body.

Throw in: Are taken by the team that the ball did not touch when it went out of bounds. Are taken from the sideline at the point where the ball went out. 1) Both feet (2 feet) must be on the ground when throwing in the ball. 2) the ball must be thrown with two hands and the ball must travel over the head.

Keeping the ball under control: Need to use the inside and outside of the feet to keep ball under control when dribbling and passing/shooting the ball.

Performing header: when performing a header, the forehead should be used, while using momentum from the upper part of your body to get the ball to go where you want it to go
