SO YOU WANT TO BURN YOUR PROPERTY-WHAT TO DO?

AS A MEMBER

1.Do a burn plan

  1. Call one of the officers of the association to help you do this
  2. Get your fireguards in place according to the burn plan

2.REMEMBER- The association is here to serve you as the landowner. You are the burn boss on your property and it is your responsibility to make it a successful and safe burn.

3.Once your burn plan has been approved and you have the date set:

  1. A couple of days before the burn, you as a member are responsible to prepare and pre-stage all that is needed for the burn. (The Burn association equipment is located at the Conservation District yard, North of the NCRS office in Perry. The keys and check out list is located with the NCRS office) This includes:
  2. Get the prescribed burn trailer from the yard and take to property. If you are needing additional equipment not in the trailer then get it and have it ready for the burn day. (Inventory list attached)
  3. Fill up the water tanks that are in the trailer and put on personal ATVs if available. Make sure the sprayers are in working order.
  4. Get the Gator and trailer from the yard and take to the property. Fill up the sprayer/water tank in back of Gator and have it ready to go.
  5. If possible (depends on vehicle type) get the 250 gallon spray rig at the yard and place in back of vehicle. This is now becomes the spray brush rig and is our largest sprayer. Fill up with water and have it in working order.
  6. Locate and have available a water source for filling up tanks on spray rigs.
  7. Fill drip torch cans with 50/50 mixture of gas and diesel or straight diesel/kerosene
  8. Make sure the Kestrel Weather meters (in burn trailer) have good batteries and are in working order
  9. Go to to make sure all weather conditions will be correct for the burn. (this can be downloaded on to a smartphone)

It is your responsibility to have the correct number of people to do the prescribed fire according to your burn plan. So call the members and get a firm commitment so your fire is not cancelled!

6.Once pre-scribed burn is completed—clean and (if have to) repair burn association equipment and return to yard
