So, you want to ask the Board a question?
The key purpose of the Association and its Board is to improve Myakka Valley for the benefit of those who live here. The Board believes it can achieve its mandate more effectively if it understands residents’ concerns and wants. So we want to hear from you. Do you have a question or a comment you want to tell the Board?
From our next Board meeting, there will be an item early on our agenda called “Residents’ Questions”. This will follow immediately after the usual introductory items and before any other “Reports”. Any Resident may raise any relevant issue of concern to them. To help you, we have set down some simple rules. These are on our web site. Just turn up to the next or any Board meeting and tell the President you have something to say.
“Residents’ Questions” – the Rules
Any Resident may raise any relevant issue of concern to them. They should advise the President by indicating they want to speak at the item marked “Residents’ Questions” on the Agenda.
· They may speak on the issue for 3 minutes, without interruption.
· If the substance of the question asked or issue raised is unclear, then the Chairman will seek clarification from the Resident.
· If the matter can be resolved directly, then an answer is given by a Board member.
· Otherwise, a specific Board member is appointed to investigate the matter and report back within 2 meetings.
· No debate takes place when the question is put.
· Debate may take place when the matter is reported back to the Board.
· The Chairman may use his discretion to allow the resident to exceed 3 minutes, if the question is almost completely put by the Resident.
· However if significantly more than three minutes appears necessary, then extra time may be granted by the Board on a majority vote to the resolution that “the Resident be further heard”. This should allow an additional 7 minutes. Further extensions of time would require further resolutions.
