Job Summary

Under the direction of theSnow Grooming Coordinator the Snow Groomer operates equipment to groom trails on designated trail systems on an on-call basis with no guaranteed hours.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Works safely and followsValley County safety procedures.
  • Safely operate equipment to groom trails.
  • Check equipment prior to operation including groomer driving lights and warning beacon for functioning.
  • Check function of reverse warning signal and assure its operation before each run.
  • Check and record pre-operation maintenance list in log book.
  • Check to assure all safety guards are in place during grooming operation.
  • Maintain trails unless hazards exist that will damage groomer tracks, i.e. minimal snow over asphalt, overgrown brush, trees or rocks.
  • Clear debris from trails when necessary which may include the use of a chain saw.
  • Pass on information regarding problem areas or snowmobiler activity in regards to safety to Valley county Sheriff’s office, Valley County Weed & Grooming Supervisor and the next operator.
  • Maintain radio contact with Dispatch/Communications Center; report all accidents, etc., and call for assistance when needed.
  • Maintain radio log in groomer.
  • Report trail conditions to appropriate/specified personnel.
  • Prepare and submit all required log books and monthly groomer report forms to Valley County Snow Grooming Coordinator.
  • Must be able to develop and maintain working relationships with the public, fellow employees, and supervisors.
  • Must be reliable and arrive to work on time.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience operating grooming equipment, snow removal equipment or equivalent machinery is preferred.
  • Must have valid Idaho Driver’s License and good driving and safety record.
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must have working knowledge and skills in basic mechanics, vehicle and machinery maintenance and upkeep.
  • CDL is preferred.

Working conditions and physical demands

  • Exposure to out of doors temperatures.
  • Must be able to hear, see, and talk.
  • Must be able to operate machinery for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to perform manual labor as needed.
  • May lift up to 50 pounds.
