Snow Elementary PTA Meeting Minutes

January 9, 2014

Meeting call to order at 6:08 by Alysia Schuler

Principal’s Report

  • Thank you to Mrs. Davidson, 2nd Grade teacher, for attending the meeting.
  • There will be a Math, Art, & Music night at Snow on Wednesday, January 15. It begins at 5:30 and includes grades 1-4.
  • The Blessings in a Backpack Concert at Stout Middle School raised $2300.
  • The Spirit Wear fundraiser will begin at the end of January. The money raised will benefit the PBIS program.
  • The SRI and Math testing will begin this month for grades 2-5.
  • The PTA Blog will go live this month. Heather Baumann has agreed to be the webmaster for the blog.
  • Snow School will begin closing at 9 pm on Friday nights. If event are planned a permit will be needed to keep the building open later.
  • The district will begin meeting to address the needs of high achievers.

a) Principals will meet to address high learners at their schools.

b) They will also be parent meetings to give input to the district.

Treasurer’s Report

  • The December report was presented. As an update, Carolyn Hannaford opted for the teacher stipend.

Secretary’s Report

  • Last month’s report was presented.

Old Business

  • The Book Fair earned $2100.

a) We decided to take the profit in Scholastic Points.

b) The next Book Fair is March 24-28

c) The fall book fair will be scheduled for mid-October.

  • Holiday Movie Night

a) It went very well and was well attended.

b) The bake sale raised $72.86

c) Mike Ghrist will plan a date for the spring.

  • Founder’s Day

a) February 27 at 5:30 pm

b) Tamara Davidson and Andrea Kurczewski were nominated for the Distinguished Member award.

c) Awards nominations are also accepted for Principal, Teacher, and Student Mentor of the year. 200-300 word essays may be submitted.

d) 40 sellers earned an ice cream and story party.

  • Christmas Decorations

a) Mike Ghrist will take them down and store them in the PTA closet.

  • Blessings in a Backpack

a) Two dates have been scheduled for the PTA.

b) January 29th at 4pm and February 13th at 6 pm.

  • The teacher committee for Mr. Walter’s going away party asked for a donation to cover the cake.

New Business

  • School Picnic planning committee

a) The current date is June 6.

b) Katie Hetrick will co-chair the committee if another member agrees to also co-chair the event.

c) Door prizes were discussed. Some suggestions were to stop giving bikes and find something to replace them. Another suggestion was to stop the classroom baskets.

  • Book Bingo

a) February 28th at 6:30

b) Mike Ghrist will apply for the permit.

  • Market Day

a) Advertising was suggested to boost sales.

b) Flyers need to go home more consistently.
