Change Requested (be explicit about which data items involved and how):
Change Requested
To change the method of submitting ISD(S)1 data. Note that there is no change to the data or dataset.
CURRENT METHOD
Data submission - Data is currently submitted to ISD by NHSScotland in fixed width format. Data is received by email.
Data validation - data is validated locally prior to submission using the SHARP system (although ISD is aware that not all sites do this).
Data amendments - amended data is currently sent as a full re-submission or in part
UPDATED METHOD
Data submission - data will be submitted direct to the Oracle database using Swift- DVL processing. (This method is used successfully for submission of other ISD datasets). File format can be either fixed width or csv. A separate submission is required for each Card Class. Each file requires a header record. ISD will provide data templates/layout.
Data validation - data will be validated at ISD during import to the database. If the file fails to load, an error report will be returned to sender.
Data amendments - when SWIFT is implemented for ISD(S)1 and users/sites want to amend data already submitted via SWIFT this must be done by sending an updated version of the full submission for the card class as the amended file overwrites the entire previous submission.
CHANGES REQUIRED
SHARP will no longer be supported by ISD.
Data will be submitted using SWIFT – DVL Processing
Level of Urgency (information on how soon the request needs to be implemented and why):
We plan to implement this method of submission on 1st October 2007 so consultation/communication has to be soon. We are also approaching holiday periods so the optimum time for consultation is within the next 3 to 4 weeks.
Background (i.e. reason for request):
SHARP uses a version of Access which is no longer supported and is not flexible enough to accommodate a revised dataset ie the inclusion of card class 9 in 2003.
To standardise data submission as it currently arrives in ISD by different methods.
To use more modern methods of submitting and receiving data.

Alison / Gordon - my comments on 19th June:
"Gordon - does this mean that ISD(S)1 data will be held in Oracle as it's "home" and therefore can be analysed directly with SQL like, eg, SMRs? Currently source ISD(S)1 data is in the form of SPSS system files which is a major pain when integrating with other Oracle based data sets. If this data's "home" is to be moved from SPSS to Oracle then you have my fulsome support but the consequences of this will have to be thought through."
... and I've still not had a reply!
Will New Ways in the pipeline and the redevelopment of the web site it will be necessary to integrate New Ways & SMR data (in Oracle) with ISD(S)1, so this issue is becoming more pertinent.

Can you advise me who to invite to the meeting should we have one?
Philip suggested we may not need a meeting, but I wonder if I should set one up provisonally so this can happen quickly if we need it (given diffculties of availability)
Thanks
Gordon
