The formative assessment process is key to a balanced assessment system. The Smarter Balanced Digital Library

supports educators with the four attributes of formative assessment: Clarify Intended Learning, Elicit Evidence, Interpret Evidence, and Act on Evidence. The Digital Library provides subject- and grade-specific resources that help educators apply the formative assessment process during daily instruction.

Access Peer-Reviewed Content

· More than 1,500 educators from 22 states with diverse areas of expertise are populating the library in advance of the launch.

· Resources in the library have passed multiple blind reviews against a rigorous set of quality criteria.

Benefit from Innovative, Comprehensive Modules

In addition to educator-contributed content, the library will contain interactive, multimedia modules:

· Subject- and grade-specific exemplar instructional modules that model the formative assessment process in the context of the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

· Professional learning modules on assessment literacy designed to help educators deepen their understanding of the formative assessment process in daily instruction.

Collaborate with Others

The Digital Library helps educators find resources through the use of robust search and filtering features, including filters for each CCSS. Educators may then:

· Rate the resources they find.

· Share their firsthand experiences using the resources.

· Start a collaboration topic and pose questions to their colleagues.
