SLIM SCHOOL REUNION AT THE VICTORY CLUB LONDON ON 2ND OCTOBER 2010

Max and I attended the final reunion that Gloria will be organising arriving on Friday 1st October so we could take the advantage of going to a show – we went to see Dreamcoats and Petticoats which is all about sixties music and was very enjoyable.

(We travelled from home by train and who should be on the same train in the same carriage as us - Robin (Harris) and his wife Karen. They attend most of the reunions including “the one that never was” in Dusseldorf. We also met up with them on the same plane from Birmingham airport. We still decided to go to Dusseldorf as our flights were booked even though the reunion was eventually cancelled. We really enjoyed our weekend. Dusseldorf – especially the old town is really interesting.)

When we got back there were a few Slimmers still in the bar – Robert (and his wife Marilyn) who we have met up at several reunions in the past. John Anderson and John Cox – who attend all the reunions were also there. There were two sisters who came all the way from Jersey who I had never met before and were at Slim during Gloria’s time.

The next day at breakfast it was lovely to meet up with my old friend Ishbel (who still looks is her forties!)

Most people were doing sightseeing or shopping. Max and I visited the Houses of Parliament and had a guided tour around – it was interesting more so for Max than myself!

The day soon passed until it was time to meet up in the Trafalgar

to have a chat and look at photographs until dinner at 7.30. It was lovely to see so many familiar faces – Anne, Dawn, Dale, Sue, Chrissie and Val who were all from Gloria’s era. I was really pleased to see Hazel again and Dick Holt who were at Slim in the mid fifties.

There were other Slimmers that went further back. I was thrilled to meet Joyce Ellis – I live near to her old friend Pat Auton and she really wanted to trace Joyce again. A few of us tried to trace her a few years ago especially Val. Eventually Joyce found the site herself when she bought a computer.

The dinner was really enjoyable and very well served.

All the Slimmers had a present which is a beautiful Slim School Mug 2010.

A couple of teachers attended – Mr Jones and John Hird who taught me in 1959. I did show him my school reports!!!!

I have enjoyed all the reunions – meeting up with old friends and meeting new ones. It is thanks to Gloria that they have taken place and also to Dave Wilmot for researching things in the first place and starting the school web site.

I am sure we will have smaller reunions in the future.
