Slide 4 - Oracle Human Capital Management Cloud Release 9

Slide notes

Hello, my name is Chris. Welcome to the Release 9 Training for Oracle Fusion Global Human Resource Cloud Enhancements. In this session, we’ll cover the Geography Tree Enhancements we have made in this release.

Notes

Slide 5 - Agenda

Slide notes

For the enhancements covered in this training, we’ll give an overview, followed by details of how you can use them, and what business value they bring.

Then we’ll walk you through a demonstration where you’ll also have the opportunity to go through the flow for yourself in Try It Out mode.

Next we’ll explain what you need to consider before enabling these features in your business, and what you need to know to set them up.]

Slide 6 - Enhancements Overview

Slide notes

In order to understand the geography tree enhancement, it is best to first understand that public holidays are defined as calendar events. Although they can be used for any event that might impact a person’s work schedule, such as a plant closing for retooling, public holiday is the most typical example. When building calendar events, there are 2 options for determining which people should receive a calendar event, either the organization tree or the geography tree.

In prior releases, the geographic tree could only be built at the country level. We recognized that the functionality needed to be enhanced to allow for the geographic tree to be built with lower levels, such as states, counties, cities etc. and for the calendar events to be evaluated based on these additional geographic regions. The reason is that some public holidays in some countries vary by these lower geographic regions. For example, in Germany, Epiphany may be recognized as a public holiday in the state of Bavaria but not in Hesse.

With this enhancement, geographic trees can be built with these additional geographic regions if a customer requires them, and the calendar events can evaluate the relationship of people to these regions.

Slide notes

A new lookup type, ORA_PER_GEOGRAPHIC_TREE_NODES, has been delivered that allows the customer to add any geographic regions that might be required to meet specific customer requirements. If you do not require variation of calendar events below the country level, it is not necessary to define values in the new lookup and simply use the existing list of countries. If should be noted that the values entered in the lookup code should NOT be the same as the country abbreviations, such as DE, US, IN etc.

But if you have added values to the lookup, they are then available to be selected in the geographic tree. A new data source of Geographic Tree Calendar Event Data Source has been added to the geographic tree definition. Once the tree has been built, using the geography hierarchy field on the manage locations page, the customer can select which geographic region the location is associated with.

It is the location that is on the person’s assignment where the connection is made between the person and the calendar event. When a calendar event is included for a particular geographic region, if the geography hierarchy on the location has that geographic region and the person’s assignment has that location, then the calendar event is applicable to that person.

Slide notes

With this feature, geographic trees can be built with geographic regions, so that public holidays can be entered that vary by a country state, province or city. For example, in countries like Germany or India, where you may have employees in various states, your public holiday calendar can be evaluated by person at the state level.

This functionality is optional, and for those countries where you may have employees in various states, but all locations recognize the same public holidays, you can still define your geographic tree for just the country and don’t need to define any geographic regions at a lower level because it is not necessary.

Slide 140 - Summary of Enhancement Capabilities

Slide notes

Here is the summary of the features I have talked about today, geographic trees can be built with geographic regions below the country level. This structure can then be used by calendar events to evaluate whether a calendar event is applicable for a person based on their work location.

Slide 141 - Additional Information

Slide notes

When creating the lookup values for the new ORA_PER_GEOGRAPHIC_TREE_NODES lookup type, they should not be equal to country abbreviations. This is to prevent conflicts in the display in the geographic tree.

Just a reminder, this new functionality is optional. You only need to implement this functionality if you have a requirement to vary your calendar events based on regions below the country level.

When building your geographic tree, a new data source called Geographic Tree Calendar Event Data Source is available that will display the values from the values entered into the new lookup type.
