Internship Program Admissions Briefly describe in narrative form important information to assist
potential applicants in assessing their likely fit with your program.
We are looking for people who genuinely want to be at our site, who can benefit from the training
we offer, and will bring their experiences with them. We are looking for psychologically mature
individuals who are truly open to developing themselves further. We closely review the actual
preparation an applicant has had, the quality of the training andsupervision received. Factors
such as APA accreditation statusof an applicant’s graduate program, the school’s match rate,
and EPPP pass rate are all things we consider. We also look at individual supervision hours
received and practica experiences. In our materials, we have tried to be very honest and trans-
parent, so you, the applicantcan evaluate if we will meet your needs for an internship site. If
after you read our materials, you feel that SLCVA would be a good fit in terms of training
environment, would assist you in meeting your career goals, you meet our minimum guidelines,
and have good solid training in either counselingor clinical psychology, please apply. In our experience,
we have found that some things do not differentiateor predict applicants’ success: i.e., the number
of clinical hours, the type of school they’re from, the type of program they’re from, traditional vs.
non-traditional age students, etc. You need not have had all or even most of the experiences we
offer to be fully considered. This includes VA experience, we routinely accept trainees without
VA experience and they do fine.
