About Redfern Community Centre

Redfern Community Centre (RCC) offers 1 multipurpose hall, and a multipurpose room suitable for dance and other classes.

Getting to Redfern Community Centre

Public transport

There are no bus stops within 200 metres of RCC.

Redfern train station is 180 metres away from RCC and is serviced by all metropolitan Sydney train lines.

The Village2Village community transport bus operates Thursdays and Fridays and is free for all passengers. The Village to Village route from Redfern to Broadway route sets down on Lawson Street near Redfern train station, 180 metres from the entrance to RCC.

Driving or parking

There is no dedicated on-site accessible parking at RCC.

There is no on-street mobility parking spaces near RCC.

Taxis and private vehicles

There are no dedicated set down areas for taxis and private vehicles. Two-hour parking applies in the Redfern area.

Entrance

Redfern Community Centre entrance automatic doors are closed and entry is level

The pathway to RCC includes a flat and wide concrete path slightly sloping down towards the entrance.

RCC has step free access. There is a short, shallow incline at the entrance to RCC. The doorway includes automatic doors which open to 1960mm wide. Automatic doors are in operation during opening hours.

Customer service

The right-hand side of the reception desk is lowered and accessible to wheelchair users. There is no hearing loop available at the reception desk.

Toilets

There are 3 unisex accessible toilets at RCC.

For the accessible toilet on the ground level travel straight ahead from the main pedestrian entrance, turn right at the reception desk and right at the lift. Travel down the hallway and the accessible toilet is located on the left.

The doorway to the ground level accessible toilet is heavy solid wood which opens to 1310mm wide. Push door to open. Toilet is left-hand side transfer.

For the accessible toilet on level 1, from the lift turn right and travel straight ahead down the hallway. The accessible toilet is located at the end of the hallway. The narrowest part of the hallway is 880mm wide.

The doorway to the level 1 accessible toilet is heavy solid wood which opens to 1310mm wide. Push door to open. Toilet is right-hand side transfer.

For the accessible toilet in the basement, from the lift turn left, travel straight ahead down the hallway. The accessible toilet is located on the left.

The doorway to the basement level accessible toilet is heavy solid wood which opens to 1310mm wide. Push door to open. Toilet is right-hand side transfer.

There are no ambulant toilets at RCC.

Change and shower facilities

Each unisex accessible toilet at RCC also includes shower facilities, including shower controls that are reachable from a seated position and bench.

Elevators, stairs and passageways

RCC includes a passenger lift to all floors. To access the lift from the main pedestrian entrance, travel straight ahead, turn right at the reception desk and the lift is straight ahead. The lift holds 630kg weight capacity, entrance is 890mm wide and handrails are on the right-hand side. The lift buttons are illuminated with raised text and braille on the right-hand side of the doors. The lift includes circulation space of 890mm x 1300mm. There is no mirror or audio announcements.

RCC includes stairs from the ground level to level 1. Stairs are located directly adjacent to the main pedestrian entrance on the left-hand side. Stairs include 2 flights with 20 steps in total. Stairs are open, 1380mm wide and include handrails on both sides, nosings (non-slip edges) and tactile ground surface indicators.

Audio communication

There is no hearing loop available at RCC.

Kitchenette

There are 3 kitchenettes available, 1 on each level at RCC. Each kitchenette doorway is flat and opens to is 8900mm wide. Each door is heavy solid wood door hinged on the right-hand side. Push to open.

Kitchenette controls are not reachable from a seated position.
