Skype Guidelines Document

  1. Download and install Skype (Chat Software)
  2. To create a Skype account first go to: then complete the form, an example is shown below:

NOTE: Your Skype ID should be same or similar to your VU student ID. Otherwise you will be responsible for any issues in your Skype session.

  1. Then you can use Skypelogin name by using your newly created Skype ID as mentioned in the following screenshot:

  1. Configure and test headphone and Mic for voice chat.
  2. The best way to test voice is to call the Skype contact: Echo / Sound Test Service as it records the call and plays it afterwards.
  3. Add supervisor’sSkype id mentioned on the announcements page, in your Skype contacts. Request received from other than your student id will be declined.
  4. Download team viewer software from the following link:

Important

Students are advised to strictly abide by the following guidelines:

  1. Irrelevant queries will not be entertained.
  2. If in a group Skype call, when one student is asking a question, no other students will interfere / interrupt the question/answer. Students must wait for their turn to ask any question from the respective project supervisor.
  3. Supervisor has the right to entertain or reject any irrelevant query.
  4. Any supervisor is not responsible to reply Skype text chats so always use Skype call, you can use Skype text chat if your supervisor has asked you to do so, or if it is necessary during a Skype call.

How to Add a Contact in Skype

First go to Contacts > Add Contact > Search Skype Directory:

Then enter the Skype name or Skype ID of the person you want to add in Skype, if you have entered correctly, the first result shown by Skype will be the one you shall add, following is just for an example:

Click on first result and then click“Add to Contacts” button:

Then it will show a Send button, click on it to finalize:

How to Start a Call on Skype

Click on the person’s name from contacts, then click on phone icon and use ‘Call Skype’ or similar option. To start a video call you shall click on camera icon to start Skype video call:

How to Share screen during Skype Call Method 1

During a Skype call you can open main Skype window and click on Plus button to open menu and use share screens option:

Click on the person’s name having Skype call with you, then use Call menu and then Share screen option:

Then click on Start button:

Then the person you have in Skype call can view your computer screen. You can close the Skype call dialogue box by close button it will not affect Skype call or sharing of screen:

Showing line numbers in code

If you are showing the source code of your application then it is nice to show line numbers. Some IDEs or editors show line numbers by default. For visual studio and for eclipse, check following screenshots:

For Visual Studio:
On the menu bar, choose Tools thenOptions. Expand the Text Editor node, and then select General under All Languages to turn on line numbers in all languages.

For Eclipse/Java:
In Eclipse IDE, select WindowsPreferenceGeneralEditorsText Editors , check on the Show line numbers option.
