Skydive in aid of

St. Gemma’s Hospice

A skydive is a unique and totally unforgettable experience and we want to make sure you enjoy every part of it.

In order to take part in our parachute jumps, you need to raise a minimum of £450 in sponsorship. This payment covers the cost of your jump, a donation to St. Gemma’s Hospice (typically £250) and deposit. Payment is required on the day of your jump, but if you have not managed to raise the minimum sponsorship by this date, you will be asked to pay the remaining amount by post dated cheque or credit/debit card. Please note this will not be banked by St. Gemma’s until four weeks after the day of your jump, giving you plenty of time to collect your remaining sponsorship. Once you have booked your place we will send you a fundraising pack with lots of tips and information on how to raise the money. Below is some information that we would like to tell you about tandem skydiving, please read through this helpful information and then send back both parts of your completed reservation form. (Please note our nearest airfield is Brigg, North Lincolnshire).

AGE RESTRICTIONS

Overall age range: 16 years and older. There is no upper age limit for tandem skydiving.

  • Age 16-17: Parental consent will be required. This is in the form of a parental/guardian signature on the membership form and medical form (which will be sent to you after you have booked, please bring along on day of jump)
  • Age 16-39: You will be required to sign a solo self-declaration medical form on day of jump (this will be sent out with your booking confirmation and you will need to fill this in and bring along with you on the day of your jump)
  • Age 40 and over: You must have a tandem medical form stamped by your doctor prior to training (this form will be sent out with your booking confirmation and you must bring it along with you to hand in on the day of your jump).

WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS

The weight limit for skydiving is 16 stones (100kg). Although it is less important to be physically fit for a tandem skydive, participants must be aware that some weather conditions are less suitable for participants who are less physically fit, less agile or for those with physical disabilities – these participants may have to wait for more favourable weather in order to complete their skydive.

MEDICAL CONDITIONS AND NOTES – Please Read Carefully

Certain medical conditions (for example, epilepsy, some cardiovascular and neurological conditions and some forms of diabetes) or recurring injuries (for example, recurring dislocations) may preclude you from participating in a skydive. If you are in any doubt, please contact the parachute centre on 01652 648 837 or consult the notes on the medical form for more detailed information. In addition, as our concern is for your safety, we reserve the right to refuse training at the Centre Chief Instructor’s discretion. To ensure maximum safety the Centre Chief Instructor may choose to postpone a jump if weather conditions are deemed not suitable for an individual at that time. It should be noted that not all weather conditions may be suitable for all participants.

INFORMATION ON YOUR SKYDIVE

Tandem skydiving offers a unique and totally unforgettable experience, enabling the first-time participant to skydive and freefall from up to 15,000ft on your very first jump!

Tandem Skydiving offers the easiest and quickest way to experience your first jump without the need for a lengthy training session. A short 20-25 minute briefing session will guide you through what is required to exit the aircraft, freefall from up to 15,000ft, land a modern high-performance square canopy and descend to your landing spot.

After training, you will be fully kitted up with all the necessary equipment before boarding the aircraft for the 20-30 minute climb to altitude, giving you plenty of time to admire the scenery. The exit from the aircraft is from up to 15,000ft, allowing freefall for around 1 minute at speeds of approximately 120mph until parachute is deployed at 5,000ft. The exhilaration of freefalling is absolutely breathtaking with sensations which just have to be experienced to be believed.

CANOPY DEPLOYMENT AND LANDING

The entire jump from leaving the aircraft to your landing is controlled by your professional Instructor who you will be strapped to for the duration of your skydive. Canopy deployment is controlled by your Instructor at the end of your freefall and is just the start of a slow, peaceful ride down to landing, lasting around 5 minutes. Tandem canopies are fitted with dual controls allowing both participant and Instructor to steer and control the canopy.

Landing is also controlled by your Instructor, allowing comfortable touch down for the safest way to land on your first jump! The pre-jump briefing by the Instructor covers landing techniques and procedures in detail.

CAPTURE YOUR EXPERIENCE FOREVER ON DVD AND IN PHOTOGRAPHS

You also have the opportunity to have your skydive videoed and photographed by a professional freefall cameraman, preserving your skydive forever on a fully edited DVD and in photographs.

The cameraman will accompany you throughout the experience, from the ground, during the aircraft ride, throughout the freefall and finally upon landing. You then have a DVD with which to impress your friends and family, scare your Mum or just proof that you did it!

If you have any more questions, please call the jump centre on 0113 250 5600 as they will be best equipped to answer your questions.

Thank you and we hope you decide to take part in this fantastic experience.

!!Remember, every penny raised over £450 also comes to St. Gemma’s Hospice!!
