Math & Skills Day 2016

Sculpture Contest

Time:10:00 a.m.-2:00 p.m. (one session) with Lunch Break

Location:Eden Hall, Room 7

Limit:16 participants (1st to sign up = 1st in contest, limit 3 from each school)

Description:

In the time allotted, the participant will create a freestanding sculpture modeled from clay.

Contest Rules:

Open competition, any subject matter. In choosing subject matter, participants are reminded that they are representing their schools in this contest. Objectionable imagery is discouraged and will be disqualified.

Sculpture designs may be researched and planned in advance. Drawings and photocopies of images as sculptural aids are permitted. No books are permitted.

One sculpture per participant (no multiple sculptures).

One participant per sculpture (no team sculpting)

Sculptures may not exceed 16 inches in any dimension. Winning solid sculptures will be hollowed for processing by Art Dept.

Participants are to observe normal rules of decorum and conduct themselves in a dignified manner during competition. Disruptive participants will be disqualified and ejected.

Participants will be required to completely clean up after themselves; including floor, table and tools used.

Judging:

The Southwestern Sculpture Classes (Art 192 & 292) meeting that afternoon will judge sculptures. Sculpture Instructor James Fritz will oversee judging. Each piece will be judged on originality, aesthetic interpretation, and technique.

Prizes:

1st Prize is a certificate of recognition, 3-credit tuition waiver at Southwestern, plus processing of the sculpture.

2nd Prize is a certificate of recognition, 1-credit tuition waiver at Southwestern, plus processing of the sculpture.

3rd Prize is a certificate of recognition and processing of the sculpture.
