SECTION 129300 - SITE FURNISHINGS

This Section uses the term "Architect." Change this term to match that used to identify the design professional as defined in the General and Supplementary Conditions.

Verify that Section titles referenced in this Section are correct for this Project's Specifications; Section titles may have changed.

PART 1 - GENERAL

1.1RELATED DOCUMENTS

  1. Drawings and general provisions of the Contract, including General and Supplementary Conditions and Division1 Specification Sections, apply to this Section.

1.2SUMMARY

1.3SUBMITTALS

  1. Product Data: For each type of product indicated.
  2. LEED Submittals:
  3. Product Data for CreditMR4: For products having recycled content, manufacturer documentation indicating percentages by weight of postconsumer and preconsumer recycled content.
  4. Include statement indicating costs for each product having recycled content.
  5. Product Data for Credit MR 5: For products and materials to comply with requirements for regional materials, provide documentation indicating location of product or material manufacturing location and the point of extraction, harvest, or recovery for each raw material.
  6. Include documentation on distance to project, contractor cost for each regional material, and percent by weight that is considered regional.
  7. Samples for Initial Selection: For units with factory-applied color finishes.

Delete paragraph above if colors are preselected and specified or scheduled. Retain first paragraph and subparagraphs below with or without above.

  1. Samples for Verification: For each type of exposed finish required, submit Samples of material
  2. Product Schedule: For site furnishings. Use same designations indicated on Drawings.
  3. Material Certificates: For site furnishings, signed by manufacturers.

Edit subparagraphs below to suit Project.

  1. Sustainably Harvested Wood: Include certification by manufacturer and from sources that participate in sustained yield programs.

  1. Maintenance Data: For site furnishings to include in maintenance manuals.

1.4QUALITY ASSURANCE

Retain paragraph below without option if all site furnishings are products of one manufacturer.

  1. Source Limitations: Obtain site furnishing(s) through source from manufacturer stated on drawings.

1.5EXTRA MATERIALS

Extra materials may not be allowed for publicly funded projects.

  1. Furnish extra materials that are provided by the manufacturer - package with protective covering for storage and identified with labels describing contents.

Revise subparagraphs below to suit Project.

PART 2 - PRODUCTS

2.1MATERIALS

  1. Aluminum: Per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.
  2. Steel and Iron: Per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.
  3. Stainless Steel: Per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.
  4. Wood: Surfaced smooth on four sides with eased edges; kiln dried, free of knots, solid stock of species indicated, per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.

Retain one of six subparagraphs below or revise to suit product.

  1. Fiberglass: Multiple laminations of glass-fiber-reinforced polyester resin with UV-light stable, colorfast, non-fading, weather- and stain-resistant, colored polyester gel coat, and manufacturer's standard finish, per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.
  2. Plastic: Color impregnated, color and UV-light stabilized, and mold resistant, per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.
  3. Anchors, Fasteners, Fittings, and Hardware: Per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.

Retain one or both subparagraphs below. If retaining both, indicate locations of anchors and brackets on Drawings.

  1. Non-shrink, Nonmetallic Grout: Premixed, factory-packaged, non-staining, noncorrosive, nongaseous grout complying with ASTMC1107; recommended in writing by manufacturer, for exterior applications, per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.

Retain paragraph above or below if site furnishings are set in pipe sleeves or voids in concrete; otherwise, delete both.

  1. Erosion-Resistant Anchoring Cement: Factory-packaged, non-shrink, non-staining, hydraulic-controlled expansion cement formulation for mixing with potable water at Project site to create pourable anchoring, patching, and grouting compound; resistant to erosion from water exposure without needing protection by a sealer or waterproof coating; recommended in writing by manufacturer, for exterior applications, per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.

Delete paragraph and subparagraphs below if no ferrous components of site furnishings.

  1. Galvanizing: Where indicated for steel and iron components, provide the following protective zinc coating applied to components after fabrication per manufacturer, free of surface blemishes.

2.2SEATING

See Editing Instruction No.1 in the Evaluations for cautions about naming manufacturers and products. Retain one of first three paragraphs and list of manufacturers below. See Division1 Section "Product Requirements."

2.3BICYCLE RACKS

2.4TRASHAND ASH RECEPTACLES

2.5FABRICATION

  1. Metal Components: Form to required shapes and sizes with true, consistent curves, lines, and angles. Separate metals from dissimilar materials to prevent electrolytic action.
  2. Welded Connections: Weld connections continuously. Weld solid members with full-length, full-penetration welds and hollow members with full-circumference welds. At exposed connections, finish surfaces smooth and blended so no roughness or unevenness shows after finishing and welded surface matches contours of adjoining surfaces.
  3. Pipes and Tubes: Form simple and compound curves by bending members in jigs to produce uniform curvature for each repetitive configuration required; maintain cylindrical cross section of member throughout entire bend without buckling, twisting, cracking, or otherwise deforming exposed surfaces of handrail and railing components.
  4. Preservative-Treated Wood Components: Complete fabrication of treated items before treatment if possible. If cut after treatment, apply field treatment complying with AWPAM4 to cut surfaces.
  5. Exposed Surfaces: Polished, sanded, or otherwise finished; all surfaces smooth, free of burrs, barbs, splinters, and sharpness; all edges and ends rolled, rounded, or capped.
  6. Factory Assembly: Assemble components in the factory to greatest extent possible to minimize field assembly. Clearly mark units for assembly in the field.

2.6FINISHES, GENERAL

  1. Comply with NAAMM's "Metal Finishes Manual for Architectural and Metal Products" for recommendations for applying and designating finishes.
  2. Appearance of Finished Work: Variations in appearance of abutting or adjacent pieces are acceptable if they are within one-half of the range of approved Samples. Noticeable variations in the same piece are not acceptable. Variations in appearance of other components are acceptable if they are within the range of approved Samples and are assembled or installed to minimize contrast.

2.7ALUMINUM FINISHES

Revise this Article if less-durable, nonpowder-coat, baked-enamel finish suits Project and product. Most manufacturers listed in the Evaluations finish products with baked, polyester, powder-coat finish. Verify finish with manufacturers.

  1. Baked-Enamel, Powder-Coat Finish: Manufacturer's standard, baked, polyester, powder-coat finish complying with finish manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation, including pretreatment, application, baking, and minimum dry film thickness.

2.8STEEL AND GALVANIZED STEEL FINISHES

Revise first paragraph below if less-durable, nonpowder-coat, baked-enamel finish suits Project and product. Most manufacturers listed in the Evaluations finish products with baked, polyester, powder-coat finish. Verify finish with manufacturers.

  1. Baked-Enamel, Powder-Coat Finish: Manufacturer's standard, baked, polyester, powder-coat finish complying with finish manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation, including pretreatment, application, baking, and minimum dry film thickness.
  2. PVC Finish: Manufacturer's standard, UV-light stabilized, mold-resistant, slip-resistant, matte-textured, dipped or sprayed-on, PVC-plastisol finish, with flame retardant added; complying with coating manufacturer's written instructions for pretreatment, application, and minimum dry film thickness.

2.9IRON FINISHES

Revise paragraph below if less-durable, nonpowder-coat, baked-enamel finish suits Project and product. Most manufacturers listed in the Evaluations finish products with baked, polyester, powder-coat finish. Verify availability with manufacturers.

  1. Baked-Enamel, Powder-Coat Finish: Manufacturer's standard, baked, polyester, powder-coat finish complying with finish manufacturer's written instructions for surface preparation, including pretreatment, application, baking, and minimum dry film thickness.

2.10STAINLESS-STEEL FINISHES

  1. Remove tool and die marks and stretch lines or blend into finish.

Delete paragraph below if no directionally textured finishes are retained.

  1. Grind and polish surfaces to produce uniform, directionally textured, polished finish indicated, free of cross scratches. Run grain with long dimension of each piece.

PART 3 - EXECUTION

3.1EXAMINATION

  1. Examine areas and conditions, with Installer present, for compliance with requirements for correct and level finished grade, mounting surfaces, installation tolerances, and other conditions affecting performance.
  2. Proceed with installation only after unsatisfactory conditions have been corrected.

3.2INSTALLATION, GENERAL

  1. Comply with manufacturer's written installation instructions unless more stringent requirements are indicated. Complete field assembly of site furnishings where required.
  2. Unless otherwise indicated, install site furnishings after landscaping and paving have been completed.
  3. Install site furnishings level, plumb, true, and securely anchored and positioned at locations indicated on Drawings, and per manufacturer's recommendations

Retain one of two paragraphs below if site furnishings are supported by embedded pipe or tubing posts, or revise to suit Project.

3.3CLEANING

  1. After completing site furnishing installation, inspect components. Remove spots, dirt, and debris. Repair damaged finishes to match original finish or replace component.
