Northern Light United Church seeks to fill 2 positions for its Summer Lunch Program. Meals will be prepared at Northern Light and served at the Geneva Woods housing complex in Douglas.

Site Coordinator Job Description

Summer Lunch Program goal: Provide nutritious meals for children and youth in a welcoming, safe, and fun environment.

Hours: 20 per week, end of May to mid August. Program generally runs 10 – 2, Monday – Friday, with some flexibility needed outside these hours for occasional shopping, outreach, meetings, etc.,

1.  Site coordinator oversees meal preparation, transport and serving of food, record keeping, clean up, and children’s activities, both through direct engagement and supervision of staff and volunteers.

2.  Become familiar with program requirements and guidelines for menus, meal production, food service, food safety, meal counts, reporting forms, procedures for employees and volunteers

3.  Provide for clean and well-ordered space in the Northern Light United Church kitchen

4.  Develop menus and schedule food production in coordination with volunteers. Some meals will be prepared in advance, frozen, and prepped the morning of service; other meals will be prepared on the morning of service.

5.  Purchase food or assure it has been purchased. Works with cooks to coordinate menus, develop shopping lists, provide for food acquisition and storage, move food from the freezer to thaw for later use in keeping with health department regulations, etc.

6.  Maintain safe and hospitable service environment at the Geneva Woods community room.

a.  Develop schedule for service and activities between 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. weekdays and coordinate with food service and activities volunteers.

b.  Review behavioral guidelines with youth.

c.  Mediate and resolve situations if guidelines not followed.

7.  Organize volunteers to assure sufficient staffing each day.

-  Schedule cooks, servers, transportation and clean up.

8.  Open the Geneva Woods facility prior to activities and food service. Oversee set-up and clean-up each day. Arrange for coverage if coordinator is absent.

9.  Ensure that supplies are available for the activities led by volunteers and staff.

10.  Train and supervise volunteers including confirmation that volunteers have had safe sanctuary training and have secured food handlers cards.

11.  Maintain statistics on the number of children/adults are fed, and the number of meals served.

Requirements include driver’s license, background check, food handler card, and completion of safe sanctuary (abuse prevention) training.

Pay: $16-18/hour plus mileage.

Job Description – Summer Lunch Associate (Transportation, Activities, Cleaning)

1.  Deliver prepared hot and cold food, serving utensils, activity supplies, etc. from Northern Light United Church to Geneva Woods Housing Complex.

2.  Assist with serving food and leading children’s activities (games, reading, and other enrichment) at Geneva Woods.

3.  Pick up activities and food service supplies, pack up food, clean community room.

4.  Return to the church after lunch with serving utensils, unused food, supplies.

5.  Clean kitchen, wash pans, serving pieces, etc., put away for the next day’s lunch preparation.

6.  Coordinate with the site coordinator and cooks to move food from the freezer to thaw for later use in keeping with health department regulations.

Requirements include driver’s license, background check, food handler card, and completion of safe sanctuary (abuse prevention) training.

Pay: $15 - 16/hour plus mileage.
