Site Content Copy Process

  1. Navigate to section on Comms drive

Create page / sub-site on SharePoint for the page you’re about to copy if needed

  1. Change Page Layout

Make sure the Page Layout is set to Content Page > Default. You can tell if it isn’t because there won’t be a menu. You must be in Edit mode in order to edit the Page Layout (click Edit Page if it is greyed out).

  1. Edit the Page Title

Update the Page Title to the title of the page you’re creating. This can be different from the name of the page (which appears in the menu).

If this site is at a level where you feel it shouldn’t inherit the parent site menu, you can change this by going to Site Actions > Site Settings > Navigation (under Look and Feel) and changing the Global Navigation to “Display the navigation items below the current site”

  1. Copy Word content to CKEditor (the magic)

Go to and clear the demo content so you have an empty editor. Copy the content from Word in to this editor and it should strip all Word styles and leave you with nicely formatted headings / paragraph tags etc.

Go to Source Mode in CKEditor, Select All, Copy

In SharePoint in the content area, make sure it’s the active element and in the Ribbon click on HTML > Edit HTML Source. Paste the HTML in from CKEditor.

Make sure that all headings are either of the style Heading or Sub-heading (in the Ribbon under Markup styles) so that they are correctly styled.

5. Tidying Up

Ensure everything looks how it should (if some elements are unstyled and should be then let Daniel know).

All that should need updating are links. To do this click on the link, then in the Ribbon select the new Link Tools tab that appears and choose Select Link.

If any Images or Documents need uploading, every sub-site will have an Images + Documents Library there by default. Sometimes there is a need for additional Document / Image libraries and these can be created by going to Site Actions > New Document Library (or More Options to select an Image Library).

To display a list of all documents in a Document library, you can add a Document Library WebPart inside the editor by going to the Insert tab on the Ribbon then Web Part. Select Documents (or any custom document library you’ve created).

  1. Publish!

Compare the old page to the new page and if all looks present and correct, go to the Publish tab and click Submit!
