Sing to the Lord, ye saints of his! Praise his holy name! Psalm 30:4

We began the week exploring African objects, currency and books as we wrapped up this unit. As we ushered in new units on Australia, birds, and rocks and minerals, we explored and compared the Australian Brown snake to the North American Worm Snake. This was based on the children’s curiosity when they were shown a new lesson on animals indigenous to that continent.
As we performed another crystal growing experiment (this time with Epsom salts) we learned about another 3 dimensional shape that crystals make- the rectangular prism. We watched a short video clip of shifting tectonic plates, and know that crystals are formed when various minerals are heated and pressurized. Conversely, we also started our rock tumbler, which shows how weather erodes rocks over time.
Wednesday’s Atrium lesson was about the season of Lent. We discussed the Biblical significance of Lent in Jesus’ life, exemplified through our Lenten Garden. Items the children decided to give up during this time include candy, outgrown clothing, and toys.
Sounds of the week included Digeridoo music and tweets from the bird clock that now signals the hours in the classroom!

These were quite popular on Grandparents Day this past Wednesday- 10 copies sold! Many thanks to the Parent Association for creating this fundraising project and event.
