1) Birmingham Made Me Jobs Fair 5-9 May

Making Smarter Ways – final theme to be agreed.

1) BMM Smarter 2014 was about seeing Birmingham in a New Light. As the great designing and making centre of the UK. The Original Design City with a rich living legacy. It would be about showcasing our Bright Sparks in Supply chains and OEMs, brands, and young people - the emerging talent and linking these together. it would be about the bright spark of entrepreneurship and discovery.
2) This year the focus would be on 'making smarter ways' or something along these lines…building on the Longbridge & Bourneville Lighting Festival which immediately precedes the BMM October Design Expo.

3) It would have a focus on ways through the city, building on a core route leading from New Library of Birmingham to Millennium Point Eastside and taking in Way Points along the routes and in particular how the city feels to students and users of the city.

Actions:

1) Jobs Fair Focus:
Meet with Kate Canty, (Shilpi Akbar, Margaret Way, if possible) and with Kim Patterson of RBS and Matt Till of BCU to ensure that BMM activities align with and support Council Jobs Fair on 9th May. Their employers will all have real jobs for young people from school leaver to graduate level. (Leena Sandhu to coordinate)

BN aiming to have series of days supporting graduates and students into work and work experience:

4)5-9 May: Launch of BMM 'Making Smarter Ways'(tbc) through Birmingham which will be illuminated from 26-31 October. Mapping project activities being led by MADE and Sally Robertshaw, Prof Kathryn Moore and with Birmingham Alabama interactions.

5) Other activities during May Jobs Fair:

6th May: Prof Michael Overduin, Birmingham Science Capital hosts, Open Data for the NHS at Millennium Point

7th May: Launch of Dance Xchange International Dance Festival Birmingham at Millennium Point, performance areas designed and constructed by Alessandro Columbano and students from School of Architecture, BIAD

8th May: Awards Celebration Schools Design Programme, evening MP

5) Launch of Make Yourself Smarter Kit: to see if a BCUsocial enterprise could be launched for students to run this from now to end October and to promote and sell illuminate kits to schools, students, residents and businesses in Birmingham with some crowd sourced activities built into October activities. 6) Birmingham Made Me SMARTER project proposal

Social Enterprise purpose:

*To purchase the components necessary to assemble and make fit for purpose a lighting board that can receive text messages and respond to them by showing different lights and patterns.

*To sell these kits to different target markets, especially customers on the core Make:way routes from New Library of Birmingham to Millennium Point incorporating key Way Points including Mailbox, New Street Station, Moor Street, Selfridges and the residencies and businesses en route as well as schools across the region and students in Birmingham/WM universities.

*To devise means of the kits being used simultaneously by target market segments and customers to light up the city and to aim to help the world to see Birmingham in a new light as Birmimgham Bright Sparks....

* To exist as a social enterprise with the purpose of supporting the BMM Bright Sparks (or proper name) campaign

* For social enterprise team to be rewarded and recognised for their entrepreneurship through financial and personal incentives
