Bibliographical Statement: Sergeant First Class Berry is a retired United Army Infantry Noncommissioned Officer with over 22 years of active military service. SFC Berry is an established leader and trainer of solders for medium air and ground combat operations. Prior to assuming the Army Instructor position, SFC Berry served as the Brigade Training Noncommissioned Officer for the Army Senior ROTC Division at Fort Devens, Massachusetts. SFC Berry also served in as Operations Sergeant Major and Platoon Sergeant in Baghdad during Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003-2004 and was awarded the Bronze Star for outstanding performance of duty. SFC Berry has earned a Bachelor of Science Degree of Divinity from LibertyUniversityand is currently enrolled in the Master of Science Degree of Divinity program at LibertyUniversity.

Course Description: The Leadership Education and Training courses provide more details about leadership situations. The program is split into units including: Techniques of Communication, Leadership, Cadet Challenge, Leadership Lab, First Aid, Map Reading, History, Your American Citizenship, Career Opportunities, and Role of the U.S. Army. The wearing of the uniform and extracurricular activities are the same as for all LET levels.

Course Objectives: The specific objectives of this course are to:

1. Prepare students without formal training in Leadership Education and Training to understand the basic fundamentals of Citizenship in Action, Leadership Theory, Foundation of Success, Wellness and Fitness, First Aid, Geography, and Citizenship.

2. Have students facilitate discussion about current events concerning the above mentioned topics.

3. Enable students to develop physical fitness ability to meet the Junior Cadet Leadership Course physical fitness standards through Cadet Challenge Fitness Test.

4. Provide a learning environment where students learn from experiences of other students.

Course Prerequisites: Successful completion of previous LET course, or permission of the SAI/AI instructor.

Text/References: LET 1-4 Reference Books issued to students.

Teaching Methodology: You and I will share the responsibility for maximizing your learning experience. I will provide you with classroom lecture(s), demonstration and practical exercises and you are responsible for completing assignments and preparing for quizzes/exams.

Attendance: Classroom lecture and lab (drill & ceremony) attendance is mandatory. Report to class on time! You must coordinate with the instructor for absences due to emergency situations.

Uniform Requirements:

  1. Students are required to wear the Army Green Uniform to class each Wednesday. The ACU uniform is authorized to wear for selected cadets on each Tuesday.
  1. Uniform are issued at no cost to parents.
  1. Students are encouraged to purchase a JROTC T-shirt, as an optional uniform when directed by the instructor and to show JROTC pride. Cost of T-shirt is $8.00 dollars. Students that do not purchase the T-shirt are required to wear the Army Green uniform on optional uniform days.

Uniform Requirements (Continued):

  1. Male students are required to meet haircut standards and shave on uniform days. Males are not authorized to wear earrings with the Army Green uniform.
  1. Female students must wear their hair above the collar on uniform days. Females are authorized to wear only ¼ stud earrings in uniform.
  1. Students who fail to wear the uniform will result in loss of points from grade for each infraction or loss of points for each improper wearof uniform infraction IAW uniform CHECKLIST.

Other Requirements –

  1. Extracurricular JROTC Team Activities: Students are encouraged to participate in at least one JROTC extracurricular activity (ie. Drill Team, Raider Team or Rifle Team). (Practice: Drill Team – Mon & Wed, 3:50p-5:30p; Rifle and Raider Team–Tue and Thur, 3:50p-5:30p).

b. Presentation: Students will be required to conduct a presentation. (Worth 100

points of overall grade). Subject and topic to be announced.

Course Outline and Evaluation: Students can achieve up to 1000 points for this course.
