Product

Silicone surface water repellent suitable for exterior and interior surfaces.

Composition

Aqueous solution of siliconates.

Purpose

To prevent water penetration by providing a durable barrier on porous surfaces.

Usage

The product is supplied ready for use. 1 litre of TSIRCO-REPELANT W will treat approximately 4-5m2 of surface.

Introduction

TSIRCO-REPELANT W is a silicone surface water repellent specially formulated to prevent water penetration into the walls of buildings, which is both harmful and unsightly. Apart from reducing thermal and sound insulation, water penetration accelerates decay by carrying dirt and deleterious chemicals from the polluted atmosphere into the walls of buildings. Against this attack, TSIRCO-REPELANT W provides an invisible barrier, which protects the walls from rapid deterioration and at the same time preserves their clean appearance.

Properties

TSIRCO-REPELANT W is an aqueous solution of siliconates highly effective for the treatment of brickwork, cementitious structures and all kinds of natural stone masonry.

Applied by brush or spray, TSIRCO-REPELANT W penetrates deeply into the surface, usually 1.5 to 3 mm depending on the porosity and texture of the surface. The treated surface continues to «breath» and any trapped moisture will easily escape. Furthermore, the product is colourless and does not form a surface skin, thus keeping the natural appearance of the building unchanged.

TSIRCO-REPELANT W is highly effective and only a single application will be required for most surfaces. Furthermore, due to the high stability of the water-repellent coating formed on the surface of the pores within the wall, the treatment will be long lasting. The life of the treated surface will however depend on the extend of weathering to which the surface is exposed. Due to its excellent repelling properties, any dirt and atmospheric impurities on the treated surface can easily be washed off by rainwater. TSIRCO-REPELANT W will also drastically reduce efflorescence and by keeping the wall dry, it will improve thermal and sound insulation. It will also protect the structure from frost action, minimising the risk of spalling.

Where to use

Use TSIRCO-REPELANT W to protect all kinds of exterior walls made of brick, concrete blocks, cement renderings, concrete and all types of stone including sandstone and limestone.

Whilst TSIRCO-REPELANT W is particularly suitable for treating limestone surfaces, its alkaline nature may cause some staining on certain types of lime. For underground surfaces the product is not recommended.

How to use

1.Coverage rates: One litre of TSIRCO-REPELANT W will be sufficient for the treatment of 4-5 m2 depending on the texture and porosity of the surface. In most cases a single coat will be sufficient; however for very porous surfaces a second coat may be necessary.

2.Preparation of surfaces: Care must be taken before application to ensure that all surfaces to be treated are sound, clean and dry. Apart from hairline cracks all other cracks and defects must be repaired. Any dirt should be cleaned thoroughly and organisms such as algae or lichens must be removed. The use of detergents must be avoided by all means as that may affect treatment and cause poor results. If the surface to be treated is damp, it must be allowed to dry before attempting treatment with TSIRCO-REPELANT W.

3.Application: TSIRCO-REPELANT W is supplied ready for use and should be applied by brush or low-pressure spray. It must be applied liberally so that the product runs freely down the surface for about 15cm below the application point. If the application is made by spray, the pressure must be kept as low as possible, to avoid excessive mistings, and the nozzle must be held close to the surface. TSIRCO-REPELANT W will dry within a few hours and 24 hours after application it will become fully water resistant.

4. Cleaning: Use plain water to clean brushes and spray equipment used during application.

5.Precautions: Apply TSIRCO-REPELANT W to the complete wall and not individual building units. This way you avoid the risk of treating a bedding face, which could detrimentally affect the mortar bond, and it also ensures the faces of mortar joints are treated.

6.Safe handling: The aqueous solution is highly alkaline and care must be taken to prevent contact with the skin and eyes. Protective clothing and goggles must be worn particularly when spraying.

Storage life

Not less than one year provided the product is kept in the manufacturer’s sealed containers and stored in a dry environment away from direct sunlight and frost.

How to specify

All surfaces as indicated shall be treated with TSIRCO-REPELANT W silicone water-repellent used strictly in accordance with the instructions of the manufacturers TSIRCON CO. LTD.
