SIGMA PHI EPSILON

BRYAN FROST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION

Deadline to Apply: August 1, 2009

The California Beta Chapter of Sigma Phi Epsilon is offering one scholarship in the amount of $250 to a continuing student at the University of Southern California who is double majoring in cinema and another discipline.

Bryan Richard Frost, 23, passed away on September 18, 2008. Frost, studying for a second degree in the School of Cinematic Arts and still involved deeply with the Sigma Phi Epsilon chapter, died of stab wounds suffered several blocks north of the Los Angeles campus early on the morning of the 18th. The attacker fled the scene.

Bryan Richard Frost was born in Idaho and resided in the city of Eagle before attending the United States Military Academy at West Point. After a year and half, Bryan transferred to USC to continue his education. During his time here, Bryan became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon in the spring of ‘06 while pursuing a bachelor’s degree in economics. After graduating with the degree in May 2007, he realized that he wouldn’t be happy with a career in economics, so he returned the next semester to complete a second bachelor’s degree at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Such a drastic change in study showed a lot about Bryan’s character. While other students would take classes very business-focused, he would take classes like “Economics of Happiness.” Not only was Frost more happy after pursuing his new career, he also achieved great success in the field. During a trip to Pakistan, Bryan made a feature film about the Iraq War. The movie was a success and the relationships he formed with the people of Pakistan were so great that they too held a candlelight vigil in Pakistan to celebrate his life. Those who knew Bryan honor his loyalty, bravery, enthusiasm, and happiness. They appreciate the way he lived, the attitude he had towards life, and the positive impact he had on their lives. Everyone can learn something from Bryan’s character.

The Bryan Frost Memorial Scholarship, which will be given at the Balanced Man Scholarship Awards Banquet on August 21, 2009 at Town and Gown, will be awarded to a candidate double majoring at USC who best reflects Bryan’s character.

There is no affiliation with Sigma Phi Epsilon required in order to be considered for the scholarship.
