Reading Logs/Reading Baggies

Please make sure that your child returns to school with both his/her reading baggie every day. We will be introducing the reading folders/reading logs during Curriculum Night (this Thursday, September 22). Plan on coming!

Curriculum Night

Please plan on coming out Thursday evening for Curriculum Night. We will be explaining all of the things we do in Kindergarten as well as explain how children are to do certain school-wide practices such as reading logs and math boxes. Can’t wait to meet you all! 

October 3-4: No School (Rosh Hashanah)

October 10: No School (Columbus Day)

October 12: No School (Yom Kippur)

Homework Rubric:

Level 3 – All homework is done (by the child)

Level 2 – Most of the homework is complete

Level 1 – Some or none of the homework is complete

***Every night! Please review the letter names/sounds and sight words at the top of the home fun sheet. These are the letters/words we’re learning in school and your child should know all of them by the end of the week. Thanks!

Reading:Read the book in your child’s book baggie with your child. As you read, ask your child: Where is the front of the book? …the back? Where does the story begin?

Math:Complete Daily Math Review and Problem of the Day for Monday. Complete one math worksheet.

Word Work/Writing: Complete two letter/sight word worksheets.

Poetry: Read the poem of the week together with your child. Act it out.

Social Studies:Maria goes to School - Cut and staple the book attached to the homework packet. Talk about the cover of the book with your child. Ask: What is the title? What will this book be all about? How does the title help you know that? How does the picture help you know that? How does the picture on the cover match the title?

Tuesday, September 20

Reading:Read the book in your child’s baggie with your child. As you read, talk about the difference between the pictures and the words and how to turn the pages of a book.

Math:Complete Daily Math Review and Problem of the Day for Tuesday. Complete one math worksheet.

Word Work/Writing: Complete two letter/sight word worksheets.

Poetry: Read the poem of the week with your child. Practice touching each of the words as you read them.

Social Studies: Talk about what each page is teaching about the topic. Ask: What does this page tell us about school? Who is on this page? Where are they? What are they doing? Why?

Wednesday, September 21

Reading:Read the book in your child’s baggie with your child. As you read, talk about the difference between letters and words: What is one letter on this page? Point to a word. What is the first letter in this word? The last letter?

Math:Complete Daily Math Review and Problem of the Day for Wednesday. Complete one math worksheet.

Word Work/Writing:Complete two letter/sight word worksheets.

Poetry: Read the poem of the week with your child. Act it out.

Social Studies: Talk about how the pages in the text connect. Ask: How does this page connect with the page before it? How do all of the parts connect together?

Thursday, September 22: Curriculum Night!

Reading: Read the book in your child’s book baggie with your child. As you read, ask your child: How does the picture on the cover of this book help us know what this book is about? Where is the title? How does that help us know what this book is about?

Math:Complete Daily Math Review and Problem of the Day for Thursday. Complete one math worksheet.

Word Work/Writing: Complete two letter/sight word worksheets.

Poetry: Read the poem of the week with your child. Color the rhyming words.

Social Studies: Talk about the big important words in the text. Ask: What are the big important words on this page? Why are those words important? How do those words help us know more about the topic

Friday, September 23

Reading: Read the book in your child’s book baggie with your child. As you read, talk about the difference between letters and words: What is one letter on this page? Point to a word. What is the first letter in this word? The last letter?

Math:Complete Problem of the Day for Friday. Look at your child’s Daily Math Review quiz. If s/he had any incorrect problems, review those types of problems with him/her over the weekend. Complete two pages of math sheets.

Word Work/Writing: Complete two letter/sight word worksheets.

Poetry: Read the poem of the week with your child. Talk about the following: What do you think happened after the mouse ran down the clock?

Science: Complete Investigation 1: Fall Trees with your family.
