Location:Devizes, Wiltshire -with travel throughout Wiltshire and Swindon

Responsible to:Services and Partnership Manager

Direct Reports:Volunteers

Contract status:Permanent after satisfactory probationary period

Annual Leave:20 days annual leave plus bank holidays (8days) and office closure days (5days). The holiday year is from 1stApril to 31st March.

Vison South West is a brand new charity embarking on a new and exciting venture. We are seeking to expand our team with ambitious projects to improve the lives of blind and partially sighted people as well as their families in the Southwest, giving them the tools to live independent lives and reach their full potential.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Sight Advisor, to provide advice and support to drop-in clients at our resource and technology centre as well as in the community. This is a varied and challenging role where no two days are the same.

Full training will be offered to the right candidate

Responsibilities:

  • Provide emotional support to people with or at risk of sight loss in one to one and group settings
  • Provided practical advice to people with or at risk of sight loss in one to one and group settings to enable independent living
  • Provide information to people with or at risk of sight loss on a range of subjects including eye conditions, benefits, employment rights, equipment and relevant services
  • Develop Peer support networks in the community and virtually
  • Provide support via the help line
  • Work with professionals at Peer Support Sessions and events to promote good eye health and sight loss awareness.
  • Keeping detailed records to evaluate emotional well-being, social inclusion economic security and independent living.
  • To monitor the outputs, outcomes and impacts of all work.
  • Working effectively with volunteers to assist them in supporting people with or at risk sight loss.

Requirements:

  • Experience of working with vulnerable children or adults, ideally having experience of people with sensory loss in a health, social care or education setting.
  • Experience or understanding of working with volunteers in a charity setting.
  • Positive, flexible, people person with good interpersonal skills and an ability to work using your own initiative.
  • Excellent standard of writing and verbal communication.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Good understanding of data protection and confidentiality within the workplace.
  • Ability to travel throughout Southwest.
  • The ability to work outside of core hours if and when necessary for which TOIL will be paid.

  • This post requires travel throughout Wiltshire and Swindon, for which a mileage allowance of 45p per mile will be paid
