Nick Palfrey, Founder
www.moofu.co.uk
Disappointed by his experiences at school, Nick Palfrey decided to take matters into his own hands and create an education system of his own.
He came up with MooFu, an e-learning system where users can develop an entirely flexible learning experience, online.
Nick’s aim was to create an environment in which students can control their own learning, he says. “I wanted MooFu to be the catalyst through which young people who learn differently can unlock their talents and flourish at school.”
Nick says that networking helped him become the entrepreneur that he is today, and he is still in contact with all the mentors and advisers who helped him develop his idea. “Finding genuine people who had the experience, knowledge, and vision to share unbiased information and support really helped,” he says.
To get the company off the ground, friends and family would pitch in to help. Nick was then able to grow his business with a loan from the bank and financial support from a private investor. Nick remarks that, “having honest, loyal and business savvy people supporting my business helped get me through the start-up phase. I took a risk and I believe that’s why MooFu has flourished.”
Nick’s advice to new entrepreneurs is to always listen to what your customers want. “The ability to listen, be creative and respond quickly and effectively has really formed the MooFu into what it is today,” he says.
Nick also advises that entrepreneurial skills should be encouraged among all employees in any company. “Allowing your staff some time and space to input and experiment with their talents can only lead to better things within your business,” he recommends. Being enterprising doesn’t necessarily mean setting up your business - it can mean seizing the opportunity to improve things in your own place ofwork.
